ok thanks.
What makes you think it's the hard drive? This is a quite a new computer - is it still in warranty?
Have you run an error check on the hard drive? Right click on your C: drive, select properties, second tab - tools and click check now. Check both boxes and click start now. Then click Yes so that it will run the check on the next reboot. Restart your computer and allow the check to run.
Oh, also go into safe mode, start, control panel, administrative tools, event viewer - any warnings or errors in any of the viewer types?
There have been known problems with the symptoms you have described and the Microsoft Automatic Windows Update Service and the svchost process. You can try booting into safe mode (F8 key before XP splash screen at startup) in the services.msc which can be opened from the start-menu>run> type "services.msc" press okay. Set the Automatic Update service to disabled. Reboot. Then download the microsoft patch WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe. Reboot computer and make sure the Automatic Update Service is set back to Automatic. Hopefully that will address your problem.
thanks everybody my computer works fine now i apprectiate it a lot
Can you tell us what you did to address the problem?
Thanks,
does your cpu fan work ok because if it stops the cpu will get hot quickly and freeze the screen. Another point is if your harddrive is full it will run slow just some other ideas rather than software
Programmes accessories system tools and then choose system restore there is a calender choose the week before the problem occurred and hopefully this should do the trick
