I followed CCT advise, when i restart my computer it shows ac97 as found even after removed in safe mode. When I try to download from the link http://www.inetbridge.net/forum/driv...l-vt1180.htmlI get a page of code the download does not work.When I install drivers from NOO NOO link I get drivers already in device manager install from there, but I do not see them. I wonder if I still have the virus in my system? I do have sp2 installed and all updates from microsoft for windows xp

I downloaded Spring 2004 orginial ChipSet driver as you advised in Post 12. When I click to install, the install wizard opens. then I get a overwrite protection window that states files already on computer, I click on overwrite all
and then a window opens and states " the orginal drivers are stored in the C:\HP\Drivers\ChipSet\folder please install the driver through the device manager" Divice manager also opens when the above windows opens, when I look through all the device manager items I can not find the chip set. This also occurs with the other Item from your post 12 when I try to install
ah ok, so you are not actually installing the drivers. The chipset is loads of devices - it should have a setup.exe file in the folder.
It is unusual for that message to display. Can you post the contents of C:\HP\Drivers\ChipSet\folder please?
I can not find the folder. When I search for "chipset" I get a no folder message. When I search for drivers I find 11 items , but none with chipset in the name. These are the names:

The 11 one is the same as number 10
So you are saying that if you double click my computer
Then double click on the c drive
then double click on the folder HP
then double click on the folder drivers
there is no folder called chipset?
When I double click my computer, I get a list of folders but there is no HP folder, No driver folder, and no chipset folder. When I use windows explorer and look in my c hard drive I can find a HP folder listed under programs, it has drivers listed under imaging but no chipset folder
Which button did you use - install now or download only ?
I downloaded to my desk top and then have two icons sp24007 and sp24003. When I double click to install the installation wizard appears and as I go through the installation I get the results as stated in post 18.I have also tried to install through programs, PC help and tools, system repair wizard, start application recovery, driver installation. I see :
1] Realteck audio driver
2}VIA AGP chipset
3}VIA INF chipset
When I install all three and restart my computer I get a new hardware found Realtek audio, but it does not work as I outlined in my post 1

You need to delete all the multiple entries except the one that doesn't have a number at the end EG
This is the key you need to navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
And this is a copy of the details of MY laptop - your desktop will be different
so for example your keys for midimap.dll may be

This problem happens when you install lots of different drivers... eventually you can't install any more.
To show me what your key looks like, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
Right click on the drivers32 folder and select export. Save to a filename and folder you can find. Now navigate to the filenmae DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK IT! Right click it and select edit... it wil open in notepad. You can copy and paste the text from there into a post here.
I am in the process of locating the registy, I did buy a sound blaster card today and installed it ,but the cd would not proceed beyond 70% installation, I went to there web sit and downloaded all drivers and installed, but I still get no audio as in post 1. I will add the info you need as soon as I find it.

You won't be able to add any more sound cards or drivers or anything else until you have fixed the registry
To get to the registry
Click start, run and type in
regedit
click ok
First thing you do is click file, export and save the entire registry to the c:\ drive so if there is a problem, we can put it back. You can delete the file when you have your sound back.
OK, that's odd, your registry is fine. Now I am flummoxed...

Do you have a plug and play enumerator installed?
If not, install it... as per the guidance.
If you have
Start, run, type in
msconfig
click ok
choose the boot.ini tab
check the bootlog check box
Apply and OK. Reboot the machine
In explorer, find the bootlog file (should be in c:\ on it's own) double click and open it in Notepad.
Check through for any drivers not loading and post the part of the boot log that shows drivers not successfully loaded.
