CCT don't give up on me yet. I want to try and fix this myself. I won't ever learn if I don't try, I just need to know which of the buttons to press when I follow the link you gave me.
If that link gives options that are not obvious to someone like me i.e. it doesn't say Download Everest Home (which it doesn't) I just want to know which option to select.
If I can get the thing onto my desktop I can follow your instructions.
-
OK, here is another site from which you can download it.
Near the top right hand side you will see a green arrow pointing downwards. Next to it are the words "Download latest version". Click on the words. The page will change and the download will start - if you have Internet Explorer you will get a pale coloured bar at the top of the web page which you have to click to allow the download.
Save the file to your desktop. When it's finished downloading double click the file to install it. When it's installed start the program from the new icon you have on your desktop.

Thanks Noo Noo. When I get home I'll run it and post the results.
-
Here are the results spread over several posts due to the number of characters -
I have put all the results here because I am having problems with the USB Ports which is on another post and the Standyby button which is greyed out.
The part of the report called Peripherals is below then the debug report.
There are 8 usb ports 6 on the back 2 on the front.
Peripherals:
Printer HP LaserJet 1020
Printer Microsoft Office Document Image Writer
USB1 Controller Intel 82801EB ICH5 - USB Controller [A-2/A-3]
USB1 Controller Intel 82801EB ICH5 - USB Controller [A-2/A-3]
USB1 Controller Intel 82801EB ICH5 - USB Controller [A-2/A-3]
USB1 Controller Intel 82801EB ICH5 - USB Controller [A-2/A-3]
USB2 Controller Intel 82801EB ICH5 - Enhanced USB2 Controller [A-2/A-3]
USB Device USB Printing Support
Should they all be USB1?
Thanks for your patience in getting me this far

Timbo you didn't follow CCT's instructions - we don't need the peripherals, we need to know the motherboard/video card information.
However, the debug for the video might be clue enough. Download and install this driver
Before you do that though download and install this driver and if you are not asked to restart the machine, do so before installing the video driver (1st one) that I linked above.
-
Done that and no difference the standby button is still greyed out.
-
OK now I definitely need the motherboard details. Please run everest again and post the motherboard details.
Has the standby button ever worked?
-
Hi Noo Noo,
I will run the program when I get home in about an hours time and post the details.
In answer to your question the Standby Button has always worked it is only since Windows was re-installed following the other problem I have which is that seven out of the eight usb ports won't recognize devices plugged into them.
I assume from what you said yesterday that when I run the Everst Program you only want the debug bit at the very bottom of the report? I was unsure because the word debug does appear at top of all of the information.
-
Nere are the results of the Motherboard scan.

No, please re-read CCT's post. We don't want the debug details at all at the moment.
-
I have followed CCT's instructions and have a text file minus debug information that is over 204,000 characters in size.
I can't upload it because it is a .txt file what would you like me to do next?
-
Post the first part in one post, then the next part in the next post etc. I will edit it as appropriate

OK, I read the entire report and then deleted everything that I don't need... but I did notice that your display driver is the default microsoft nvidia driver. The one you were supposed to install is not. Therefore you have not installed the drivers that I asked you to.
Please describe what you did to install the driver.
