OK.... you want to be cagey... which is a pity because
the 420 is here BUT your readout says i865 springdale and not the 845 brookdale.
Which means we don't know who manufactured the board and drivers are going to be try it and see... not what you want.
So if you where the new motherboard was from, it would be a easier to help you if you told us.
Ok NOONOO im thinking it was from Dell. Is that what sort of answer you are after? Dell.
Adam
The motherboard was originally in a dell machine? Great, they have good support... which Dell model?
NooNoo this is the Story.
My girlfriend gave me their old family computer and it was a bit knackered on XP Home Edition so I booted it with "XP SP3."
I am just about definite it is from Dell. I am unsure about fixes in the way of soft/hardware changes etcetcetc.
I wish I could give you more information NooNoo.
Adam
Right then, the motherboard info is lacking - there is a string of letters and numbers which is the bios identifier. Let's have that first.
Ok NooNoo I looked into Everest and finally found this. Is this what you're after?
--------[ Motherboard ]-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Motherboard Properties:
Motherboard ID 63-101-0000010-00101111-051606-INTEL$P4I6G101_P4I65G BIOS P1.10

Bingo!
Look on the left hand side for the downloads - all your drivers are there.
Ok brill. So what are you saying..... The audio driver in question is not even Realtek '97 and is actually a C-Media? I will download now and post findings.
Thanks again NooNoo!!!!
Looks that way...
Don't forget to UNISTALL realtek from add/remove programs before trying the cmedia
Downloaded that audio driver and it worked fine!Cheers very much everyone that contributed. V Grateful!
OMGmissinglink is that "board.inf" driver needed now?essential?
Adam
essential no, but might be worth doing for usb transfers and the like
Ok I will look into that but I don't really want to throw the computer over the edge now its on form again.
Thankyou ever so much again. V Happy!!!
