The only unusal thing I've seen has been loads of dust, and of course lotsa porn https://forums.windrivers.com/
Though after reading these posts, I'm considering myself lucky.

From the dark of night, comes... WHAT DO YOU MEAN INVALID PAGE FAULT!!
A small bag of dope stuffed between 2 hard drives...
Still waiting to find cash and sacks of weed...
All i ever come across is a bunch of dust balls and this sticky nicotine film.
------------------
Don't let the Muggles get you down...
I never really thought about it but that is a really great place to put strange stuff...thanks for the idea:-)
1. Spiderwebs still occupied.
2. I once found a chunk of fools gold crammed inside a customers CDROM.
3. Everything being heild together with duct tape.
4. PCI Cards crammed into AGP Slots. (not pretty)
5. Combos (The Snack)
6. Some sticky oily resuidue on everything (i didnt ask) https://forums.windrivers.com/
1. 3 Doritos
2. Dip
3. Cockroaches
This was all in the same computer.
https://forums.windrivers.com/
I find CD's in the CD-ROM all the time. other than that its mainly dust bunnies!
I've seen some of the standard dead bugs in the case, but the one that takes the cake was from a heavy smoker.
One of the techs called everyone into the service area to see this one. Upon opening the case he found 1 INCH of green and brown tobacco covering everything in the system! It was the most disgusting thing I've seen in a long time...
Needless to say this caused the heatsink fan and power supply fan to die ... https://forums.windrivers.com/
Every drive was a write off. HDD, floppy & CDROM. They were caked with tobacco inside and out. The CD drive when opened dumped a fair amount of the stuff onto the workbench.
The kicker was that the tech then told the cigar smoking customer that tobacco damage wasn't covered under warrenty...

Welcome to an inventive idea.
A great creation of the complex human mind.
Welcome to a wonderful thing that would enthral the average Joe.
Welcome to stupid.
well, i've never really found anything interesting... even while working at best buy... https://forums.windrivers.com/
now that you all mention it I probally should have found some weird stuff... guess i was lucky! https://forums.windrivers.com/
The usual dust 'n junk, with the exception of one system that had an extreme case of insect infestation. Roaches and roach turds all over. https://forums.windrivers.com/

The normal stuff; screws, manuals, various old cards and yes our share of cockroaches. The strangest was a Digital DX2/66 with lockable panels that came from a winery vineyard and it was missing one slot cover on the back. When we unlocked and opened it we had mice all over the place. There was a nest with 4 about 3 or 4 days old and a mother. The second big surprise was that they had built their nest out of good old Green Backs, about $5700.00 worth. It seems the money had been there for over 2 years when a retired office manager had used it for a safe. Needless to say the owner was happy as hell and gave each of us $100.00 for our honesty and bought a new system from us on the spot and has since been a very good customer.

How about strange smells coming from the PC. We have a chemical plant across the street and they bring in their pc to us when they need repair. Any pc that they bring in from the plant I am afraid to touch. Any piece of metal that is unpainted is corroded and rusted. I usually use some form of plastic glove to protect my hands from the smell. It smells like dead fish that has been sitting around for 3 weeks and then crapped on. I can walk in the front door and tell if one of their computers is in the shop. If it does get on your hands it takes a few days with repeated washings to come off. And anything else that you touch becomes "infected" with the stench.
Also I did have one user that tied all of the wires up inside the case with paperclips instead of plastic tie wraps. What's that burning smell?!
I don't know what ESTO is, but PEBCAK is (P)roblem (E)xists (B)etween (C)hair (A)nd (K)eyboard.Quote:

Some of you mentioned that some people try to pay for stuff in strange ways. Not long ago I had a guy come into the shop in a big hurry wanting to get connected to the internet, he was really acting like the whole world depended on his connection to the net. So we went through the form and then before I fax the form off he says he'll be back in a minute. So I wait and then he walks in with an arm full of hard drives, all less than 50 Meg each trying to pay his internet bill with them! When I told him we accept cash, chq, or cc not ancient hard drives he actually got upset and started abusing me, the shop, the town, etc and stormed out. I had the internet form ripped up before he had left the store.
True story, only the names haven't been inserted to hide the stupid.

I worked on a computer from a rendering plant. You know, animal renderings, Every where inside this case was little chunks of beef flesh and unrecognizable parts. Talk about whats that burning smell!
The most interesting thing I found wasn't IN the computer but on the outside...the had one of those industrial strength magnet and was wonderin why the hell the HD (which was taped to the case wall, same side as the magnet) wasn't working
when I asked him about it - he said he was trying to help keep it from falling....MORON!
Other than that, we had a layer of dust about 3 inches thick that come from one of those places that does strip mining....and it wasn't thin, loose dust...but like rock was gonna be there in a few years...heh

Hey, what do I know? I'm only an Apprentice....that knows how almost every part works...
After two years as a Field engineer I found some preety weird things.
1. About a pint of beer in a IBM thinkpad
2. A pair of nail clippers wedged into a PSU (no wonder it made horrible noises)
3. A sticky red goo everywhere in a Novell server (ex-employee had poured blackcurrent juice in it)
4. A full height 40 MB SCSI drive with the message 'don't even think about moving me' on top of it. (some engineers DO have a sense of humor!)
https://forums.windrivers.com/
5. A 286 which had been in a room all its life which had an open coal fire in it, and about 2" of soot inside the case!
=============================================
Just remember - I don't argue with idiots, they just drag me down to their level and beat me with experience.
I've found many awful things.... an electrocuted mummified mouse in the power supply of an Epson dot matrix printer. Cables attached to drives and boards w/ caulk, or hot glue. Spiders, roaches various bugs. 3 pounds of concrete mix in a 4Simx. Most recently, the day before yesterday actually, a golfball.
https://forums.windrivers.com/ i have post this before a year or two ago---working on a new computer that was giving to a grandmother..there were snapshots of her grand kids stuffed into the floppy drive ..somebody told her she could mail pictures on the internet to her friends......get this....after i explained it to her...she asked if she were to put stamps on them would it work?

Hi
As you can see, i´m from Brasil, were theres the biggest rain forest in the world.
Tha fact is that were i live is more or less 4000 km from the jungle.
Well, 4 days ago came to my shop a guy with a chashed tower he said it wasnt working since he came from Manaus (a city that is just in the middle of nowhere, i mean in the middle of the amazon jungle)
When i placed the machine over the bench, i heard a little sccratching noise on it, so i decided to open it to see what was going on...
When open, a little spider, wich measured at least one foot from streched leg to streched leg jump out and tried do bit me!! it seemed to be really Hungry!!! It was so huge that some guys considered sohting it down, instead of hitting it...
Do you remenber those beasts from the aracnophobia movie? its one of then, but they acctually dont have poison.

geez, a foot long spider, and it was little, i would crap myself on the spot and it attacked, too!! i would rather be confronted by a bear than that spider.
a foot long, and it was little, am i not the only one frakin out thinking about this?????
I found a whole necklace inside a printer one time. Everytime a jammed printer comes in, the first thing I do is turn it upside down and give it a good shake! Had a big chunk of a brownie fall out one time!
But anyway, I could see a bit of the necklace without even tearinng apart the printer. I showed it to her, but she insisted that was part of the printer. She left, and I took the necklace out, and taped it to the printer! (kind of an I TOLD YOU SO BEEEEAAATCHH)

Thirdfey ya want something to really get to you. Fixing a friends computer. Well this guy happens to be a tarantula nut. Apparently a male and female had escaped 2-3 months previously. I pick up the case and dozens of little baby spiders come swarming out of the power supply. 1 big spider I can handle, dozens of small ones get to me.

Life isn't one damn thing after another, it's the same damn thing over and over.
Oddest things I've found in a PC:
1: A dead mouse
2: A picture of a German Shepard with an erection the size of the Eiffel Tower (Ick) stuffed under a woman's Mobo.
3: About 5 live cockroaches (we killed them with a 4lb lump hammer)
4: Waterproof crayons
5: Blood
And the real kicker:
6: The tip of a finger, upto the first knuckle. I held it up with a pair of pliers and asked the customer if it was his. He had to check to be sure.

How about the dumbest thing I've put inside a case...
I was comming back from a major LAN party, since I was part of the organization team, I had brought a bunch of extra NICs. I didn't have enough hands to carry all of my stuff back home so I put all the NICs (still in the electrostatic bags) inside the tower. When I got home, I immediatly set-up my system and turned it on...
nothing
Odd... I checked the breaker switch and tried again...
nothing
Then I remebered the NICs
https://forums.windrivers.com/
Luckly no permenent damage occured. After I removed the extra NICs, the system booted fine. *whew*

Some ppl complain, others upgrade! (Add me to the second catagory plz)
I agree....glad I don't service "public" pcs. That is some pretty rank st_t that you all have found in there. And I thought dust bunnies the size of an infant were bad.....
Anyway, I also want to know what ESTO is....I know what the other 2 were...Help? https://forums.windrivers.com/

Ever stop to think....and forget to start again?
One computer that was donated to us, an IBM PS/1 system that came from Japan had a Yen (i think)coin in it, and the BJ400J that came with it had a pen lid stuck in the gears, and to think my dad was ready to throw the ptinter out.
Methinks, this computer came from a family with children.
PS. it was kinda fun playing with a Japanese version of Win95, but ended up formating the HD in the end.
At my store one of my guys was working on a printer that had been in someones basement or garage for a while. when the guy went to use it...(ready for this) there was a mouse that had gotten inside and died touching the power supply, so when they turned it on, the mouse fried... it was probably the most disgusting thing that I have every seen in my life....
NO JOKE!!
Only strange thing I ever found was a disconnected 3 1/2 in. floppy sitting on top of the power supply in an IBM desktop. The machine already had a drive, that one must have been a spare. https://forums.windrivers.com/
Just for grins, I hooked it up and it worked too!
