You're exactly right here Cuervo. I mean, I havn't been around all that long, but look not at who's posting, but who isn't posting.
DW and Cobra's gone, Cuervo, Grover, Dr J, Elbatcho and others have all not been around as much as they used to. There's a new group of people in here, and let's face it, they arn't posting with as much interesting topics/replys as there used to be. The creativity and imagination has left this place, and it's pretty sad, but it's life. People move on. The site's still going, but really, we'll get one, maybe two days a week where there's a lot of posting. Just look at some of the dates on the main page. There's topics which havn't been touched in months. Guess people are just getting more Oxygen and Sun now a days, or are working more, or something, but a lot of the heavy hitters have been gone. Shoot, I reacked up almost 1,000 posts in a couple of months at another site before it closed down, because I found the site interesting, but here I barely post. Just not much to post about anymore. Everything's been said or done.
I personally think the issue here is that the rule of "no flaming" has been set to encompass anyone who has anything that disagrees with what someone else is saying. Then the folk who feel that they or others have been flamed quickly IM the mods whining about how their feelings are hurt. I was IM’ed asking me to lay off a certain individual (who I was taking a few potshots at – though this is not abnormal) as other new users were bitching about me. Since then I have posted in a somewhat more “friendly” format than before and watch what I say. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not blaming the mods here but the new members who want everything to be shiny and happy and god forbid that we have a real difference of opinion in a post and really argue about something. That’s where the good topics come from.
I think we should begin posting about more racy topics and be free of constraint in the lounge. If you can’t handle the heat stay out of the lounge. Topics touting or decrying religion, companies, people and whatever should be fair game and we should be able to use whatever language we wish barring illegal activity or racism. This of course rules out hacking which I have felt we need some sort of “Security” forum for. That would bring the life back to this place.
My 2 cents.
One note:
Within 5 minutes of my post topics on boxers or briefs, ladies undies (no offense QT) and fishing have surpassed this onewhen responded to and created by the people posting to this topic. Just FYI.
MORE ARDVARKS PLEASE,
PLEASE WE NEED MORE ARDVARKS
FOR WE HAVE NO ARDVARKS IN THIS POST
i woke up this morning
sat at the kitchen table enjoyin my smoke when i noticed i was out of coffee
then all of a sudden it hit me
kernal panic coffe cup empty
unable to mount cofee
cofee not found
stopping all mntd devices
halting
entering runlevel 5 no cofee
system halted
Dang it AMC beat me to it. I was going to remind the group that my Aardvark post was deleted and every time I spice things up one person spoils it for everybody else and starts a b**ch fest. On a side note I think I saw El Batcho getting chased by two very horny Aardvarks, I think he might need a hand there Lycia. :p

Maybe we bitch, but it's at you and not your post. This is what we need more of. More bitching at each other but not from others who want to whine about things to the mods. I like your posts, though I don't totally agree with you. Keep it up.
There's so many different types of people who post here. There's lots and lots of political correctness in some people, lots and lots of defiance and rebellion in others, a tid bit of sensibility in some, and some wisdom thrown in here and there. The PC's (political correctness people) beat up on the rebel's, the rebels beat up on the PC's, the wise try to find common resolve, the sensible try to find compromise, but in the end, it doesn't really matter.
I could post something that seems great to one user, but another user might be offended, or think it's stupid what I posted. I could post something, and one user might reply with, "LOL" and another user could reply with some long-winded explanation of why they disagree or agree with me. And all the while, there's the one liners thrown in along with the negativity and resentment reply's. The list just goes on and on.
Really, the bottom line is this: If your life revolves around Windrivers that much where it's upsetting you (not singling anyone out, just a general statement) that someone posted happy birthday, then you've got some serious issues to work out. Find a hobby or something. If you're a user that doesn't want to partake in Windrivers posting anymore, then leave. Very easy to do. If you want to post, then post. If you've made a friend from Windrivers, then keep in contact with that specific person.
If someone posts a topic, "My desk is brown", then I'll just skip it, and move on to the next one. It really is that easy. And to those who miss the wit and character of past users, or present users who don't post as often, then find character deep within yourself and rise up and show it off. I don't dwell on the past, I look forward to the future. And if I don't like something I see, hear, read, or otherwise, I turn it off, walk away, or move on. If it's affects me enough, I'll make my stand and then be done with it. If it requires arguing, I'll do it. I won't even take it personally. I've said it before, and I'll say it again,.. Without conflict, we'd all be pretty bored. But to sit around whining about it, and doing absolutely nothing to resolve it,... No,.. That's not me. Just my 2 cents.
I noticed a definite downslide due to all this terrorist stuff. I think we need to fight back. Santa had the right idea. Unfortunately, Osama didn't come out to play... :(

Sorry Sowulo...the entire quote needs to be posted... ...I'm glad to be the one to paste "THE BEST DAMN POST" I've seen here since I joined.
kudos Webhead.
Good call opiate. To tell you the truth, I was thinking that myself just a couple of days ago. My time spent here has drastically decreased in the past few weeks for the same reason that you listed. But on the other hand, meaningfull stuff just doesn't happen everyday, and people don't think about the big stuff every day. It is just the way things are. Give it time, I am sure things will take a turn.

Excellent WebHead, just Excellent. The one thing that keeps wandering through my head though. A lot of people keep talking about "The good old days" and how people now are creating the "I just made my XXX number post" If Im not mistaken, werent there Toga parties in "The Ole Days" for such events?? Sure, they were for 1000 posts, but there were still parties.

Yes, and there were far more, "this is my XXX post" topics a year ago....
"The good old days" are for people too wrapped up in the past to enjoy the present....
Too much of this and one day you wake up; wonder where the time has gone; struggle to come up with having anything good to remember; and your friends and family painfully begin to acknowledge you're just a bitter old fart that no one enjoys spending time with anymore.....

Oh, yeah. People are still hung up on the number of posts, like their ability to post tidbits here and there are really important. Like this...I'm...doing...oh, never mind...

Things come and go, lets face it on the other site we were all posting up a storm, but soon things change and it closed, I never really left WD I just stoped posting, I got sick of the whining and the complaints, it just lost it's luster. I am trying to post more, but sometimes I feel that people aren't reading anyones post just waiting to see if they are quoted. We have all grown in the last six months and sometimes it hard to be the clown all the time. I think what I am trying to say is that I am back, not going anywhere soon. I think that in time the whole Evil Inc crew will be back, it's truly hard to stay away from somthing you like. As for myself I do have lots of work todo, I have been premouted to Network design and infrastructure lead. Our company is going though a merger and we are moving buildings as well as tripling our server load. So if you don't see me for day's on end it means I am working and not hidding. Like anything else we all go though growing pains and changes happen, people come and go and like I said in another post we spend our whole lifes saying good bye, it always hurts and always sucks.

Yay! 1000 posts!!! I see your point, but everyone needs to brag sometimes, it can help you feel a little better about yourself.
Happy Birthday! I don't mind it, ad I probably would have enjoyed seeing a 'Happy Birthday Draggar' thread. It shows the closeness of this community.
Besides, (IMHOH) if the mods feel a topic is truly inappropreate (sp?) I'm willing to bet they'd close it, and we'd see it float down the list of topics, to be lost in the pages beyond 1.
This is a formum where techs don't have to be techs. I see some threads, and if the subject doesn't get me, I just won't read it. (and besides, it a can be a much needed reality break from work,or the NVidia vs. Voodoo, CRT vs. LCD debates. We need that.</strong><hr></blockquote>
I agree here,this IS a general forum>
TECH LOUNGE
"Everything NOT pertaining to PC/computer support type stuff such as your choice of underwear, your boss or anything else within reason! Topics that are of a sexual or drug related theme will be deleted."

Exactly. I've always felt a good lively discussion is great, which is what drawn me here at first to lurk. The thing is though, you can't have a good lively discussion when topics are limited, and most certainly when there's no disagreement.
People may have to lay a lot more pink stuff to stay in here, but that's a cost of disagreement if someone writes something that isn't water off a duck's back to you. (I think of a certain marriage thread from about a week ago which I haven't gotten to yet to respond to)
Part of free speech in a forum like this is that everyone has the right to their own opinion. Keep in mind too, you don't have to read all the threads either, and as an example, I'll skip all the threads which involve what people should have for dinner, et. al.
Usually though, I'll read through all the threads, because I have found this current group is an interesting set of people. Which brings me to what I'm seeing here. A lot of the "older crowd" is noticing that natural change has happened, and are wishing for the way things used to be. I can understand that, but there's a time when people have to move on, and do different things.
Anyway, I hope this post enlightens some people. :)
