I have found out that AV programs will not be able to delete or sometimes even access the system volume information folder on the drive if you are running a scan on an infected system. That happens to be where a lot of bugs hide. It is always a good idea to run a virus scan on a drive from a PC you know is clean. Unfortunately you may not have access to one in the field. Running the virus scan with the system in safe mode has helped me out of a few jams also.

So if MS decides to incorporate someones technology in xp for av purposes whos should it be, they use MCAFEE for HOTMAIL right now.

Most likely it will be a variation of the e-trust product that they have been sending out free along with the security update cd

But they bought that Eastern European AV company not six months ago, and as soon as that happened you had to have known what their plans were. We discussed it here several times as well. Geesh, there is big money in AV and malware products. And if MS does something particularly well, it's knowing where the money is.
The CA products which came with the security update cd (and the firewall is ZA) was probably another way MS made some money while trying to look benevolent. Not sure about that, but I wonder if CA paid them anything.
