Here's the best joke I've heard in the pub tonight whilst watching the England Switzerland match...
Why are English lovers better than French lovers?
Because we can stay on top for 90 minutes and still come 2nd!
:thumbs2:
Thanks 2 a customer bring his computer in for fixing i miss all the 5 live commentry on the first half of the england swiss match , thankfully i was home 2 see pretty much all the second half :), hmmmm so how well did we really play taking in2 account the conditions the match was played in again it was around 35c in the staduim and also the strength of the swiss team, welp compared to how we played for 90mins aganced france we were damn awfull in my humble opinion, the main problem was how we gave the ball away way to easyly with some very wayward passing from the whole team, also they way we defended set plays James never really looked well possitoned he needs to be more dominating when possitioning the wall so he has an idea were the ball maybe comming from at the mo he's unsighted on most of the set plays that would be heading his way, one more thing there no doughting rooneys football ability but he has one failing at the mo and thats his temper we seen flashes of it in the last 2 games, as euro 04 progress's more of the teams england play are going 2 learn how to push the right buttons on Rooney to get a reaction, the last thing we need is a world cup 98 situation when beckham was sent off during the argentine match again he was young and over time he has curbed his temper, hopfully sven and there others will guide him through and were as beckam lost it at the wrong time rooney will be more grown up in his reactions or failing that when he does retaliate he makes sure the ref aint looking, on a more posative note i thought sol cambell again had a strong game and controled the defence very well and also i know he was a l8 sub but also again vassell played very soild chased what was a hoofed and hope ball from hargreaves when it was cleared from deep in englands half and that determination by vassell setup rooneys second goal, the buildup play fer the 3rd goal is prolly the best i've seen in euro 04 it was awell taken goal by gerrard but the play that led him 2 having the chance was fantastic.
I think like most ppl inc the french team it/we considered the croations a walk over, from how they played in the first match and pretty much in the first half aganced the french the french could have scored 6 or 7, what ever the croation coach told his team at half time certainly had the desired affect, it was a completly diffrent team that emerged to play the second half ya the same 11 players but with acompletly diffrent mind set on how they were going to approach the last 45 mins, as one of the pundits for the bbc said after the match the french played last part of the first half like a practice match and were going to try the same in the second half, when u get in2 that mind set its very difficult to change when things start going slightly wrong as the french almsot found to there cost tonight, for the second match running sylvester gave away a penalty and it was clear cut the ref got it spot on, but unlike when they played england earlier in the week the french keeper could not save this one although he did make a bloddy good attempt at saving it and managed to get his finger tips to the ball, from that monent on the french were rattled and with in a few mins the second goal went in fer croatia another unstoppable rasping drive the frech keeper had no chance, what shows the french were well and truelly worred how the game was going during the croation celerbration zedane got all the frech players together and that had a team meeting in there half, it did seem to have the desired effect as things did clam down slighly and the frech were lucky with there second goal oddly enough it was an assed up back pass that put the french player through on goal but unlike last time the keeper didnt bring him down for a penalty the french forward calmly slotted the ball home from quite an acute angle fer the equalizer, as the clock ticked around too the 90 mins both teams had good chances to add a third goal but either the luck was not with them or the finishing was poor, a case in point was with the croations with pretty much the last attack of the game one of there forwards missed an open goal from about 3 yrds out.
Garfield, you didn't miss much of the commentary - I forgot how truly awful Alan Green is
Mind you, as I'm thick as two short planks and didn't realise what time the game was on, I only have myself to blame
I miss Garfield's reporting and commentary. What happened Garfield? I truly enjoyed it and read every bit.
So: what's everyone's thought's so far on the tournament?
Here's mine: Damn it, I wish I could see all the games!!!! The Czech/Holland match up sounded like a barn burner. And, I would love to see the Portugal/Spain matchup
PS
Off for some golf today, so my predictions were entered early.
Ok i think these are the only games i havent posted on, first to kick off on friday was bulgaria v denmark now a few posts back i said that all teams had got to euro 2004 on merrit and deserved to be there, hmmmmm after first hearing bulgaria play via the radio then getting home 2 see the second half of this match i would like to revise that statement, the bulgarians are worse than poor they are hopeless they would make the scotland team look good and trust me that takes some doing, from what i gathered from the interupted comentery i heard during the first half on the whole they had the better of the chances, the thing that let them down and the same can be said fer how they played in there first match aganced sweden is there ability to finish, for the first 35/40 mins the play and ball was pinging around the midfield area fer most of the time and it wasnt till the end off the first half that bulgaria had 2 guilt edged chanced to take the lead the first was a mistake from the danish keeper he dropped the ball from a bulgarian cross the ball droped at the feet of a second bulgarian forward who that blasted it wide this was then quickly followed by another bulgarian attack that had the danish defenders back peddling but again the bulgarians failed to take advantage and they missed taking an undeserved lead, all credit to the dan's they managed to get back in numbers on the rare occations the bulgarians threatend an attack and u could tell this was frustrating the bulgarians on the pitch, as it seemed the first half would end in a 0-0 stale mate the dan's launched one final attack and in the 44 min the dead lock was broken as the first danish forward came in to collcet a gr8 cross from the wing he had to pass the ball to Jon Dahl Tomasson as the keeper was closing him down now with the keeper stranded it was an easy tap in fer tommasson and the dan's went in2 the break 1-0, the second half wasnt much better than the first half and it seems the bulgarian team talk at half time just involved them being told to knock lumps out the danish players, this task they did manage pretty well and as the half progressed the bulgarian tackles were getting l8tr and l8tr but some how getting towards 10 mins left they still had 11 players on the pitch and the score was still only 1-0 to denmark, now this is when it all went goofy and the ref and his officales were no use, a bulgarian forward had made a gr8 break he was clean through with only the keeper to beat then a danish defender came from noware and took the bulgarian forward out missing the ball completly the ref just waved play on and his linesmen didnt do anything even though they were up with play, it should have been at least a freekick and a booking but more than that the danish defender should have been red carded, well as u would expect the the whole bulgarian team were a little upset and the red mist desended in front of them, it was no surprise a few mins l8tr after a bulgarian player clattered in2 a danish midfielder and was yellow carded that one of his fellow players warm and fuzzy like pointed out to the ref his error earlier and it seems the ref took offence to this and sent him off the field of play, this pretty much knocked what fight the bularians had out of em and they finally wilted under the heat of the day and some pretty odd refing decisions, the danish second goal game in the 90 min and was scored by Jesper Gronkjaer who had missed the dan's first match due to the funeral of his mom and he had only flown out and joind up with the squad couple of days before hand, so we say good bye to bulgaria they still have one match left when they play italy when they will only be playing fer pride this the italians should beware as they need to win that match and as bulgaria has nothing to loose we've seen it before and will see it time after time that taking teams fer granted and and will lead to a very big fall indeed.

They seem to think England are already in the Quarter finals and playing Portugal this Thursday. See listing for June 24th!
Maybe they have some "forware" info, we dont???
What a night, what a result.
England v Portugal in the quarter finals and a superstar in the making!

And: onward England! We beat the Portuguese once before BIG TIME...and we will do it again!!!
The real hero was the bloke at the Cable Co (Time Warner) who let us have the game even though we'd gone over the 15 minute ordering limit! I've put a call in to my mate who's the sales manager there to buy him a beer.
Bloody good game though. We switched on and were already a goal down! Rooney may well be the ugliest guy in the world after Peter Reid (gawd they make some ugly buggers in that neck of the woods) but what a goal! What a pair of goals! What a lovely green bib he had on at the end!
I'm getting carried away, I shall stop now :thumbs2:
You know what scares me? The fact that I really think we can take out the hosts. This could be the big one.
Why would that scare you G? 'tis reason to be happy and to be hopeful, mate!

Apart from a crazy three minutes of stoppage time when they conceded two goals against France and lost their opening match 2-1, England have looked like a team capable of ending nearly 40 years of under-achievement since winning the World Cup in 1966.
It is probably too early to suggest that England could win this competition but the notion is not without foundation.
England dominated France for long periods in their opening match, played a tough uncompromising game to see off Switzerland, and on Monday against Croatia -- a team not known for their subtleties -- England battled back after conceding an early goal and ran out deserved winners.
Eriksson would love to beat Portugal, where he has worked as a coach, and take revenge on their coach Luis Felipe Scolari who plotted England's World Cup defeat by Brazil in 2002.
It promises to be a fascinating duel. Eriksson, who likened Rooney's impact in this tournament to the one a 17-year-old Pele made in the 1958 World Cup, would doubtless love Rooney to emulate Pele in one other respect.
Pele scored twice against Sweden, the hosts in 1958. Two more goals for Rooney against the hosts on Thursday, to add to the four he already has, would be just perfect.
The Italians are on the plane home. A crap 2-1 win over Bulgaria is not enough after the Swedes and the Danes draw 2-2.
Italy become the 1st team ever to leave the tournament with a win and 2 draws and 5 points from their 3 opening games.
If they can't beat Sweden or Denmark then they deserve to go home. Bye bye
They deserve to go home for developing a paranoia complex seemingly overnight, darn watching that game was awesome, I thought I was heading for maximum points and then wham... right at the end of play, a goal for the Swedes, fan-bloody-tastic. Almost as good as getting 4 points that was!
Hey: did I call it today, or what? https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2007/09/1.gif
See ya in a couple of years Italy, and quit you're crying and your spitting!!
One more "heavyweight" down, and just a few more to go.https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2006/04/1.gif

Germany, Spain, Italy OUT

This tournament gets better by the day, it could go ballistic tomorrow!
It'd be rude not to Gaz! :thumbs:Quote:
