You obviously have ZERO memory of what happened that day because when I and everyone in my house saw the planes hit and the buildings collapse, we just sat there jaws agape. I went to work and our helpdesk that gets 300-600 calls a day got 35 calls. All of us sat thtere and tried to refresh CNN to get any news at all for a full 8 hour day.
NOBODY ever expected people to take over an aircraft and suicide themselves into a damned building.
We had our radar looking for enemies from outside of the country coming in to us and not trained on civilian aircraft. This only made sense as per the statement directly above where I stete, "NOBODY ever expected people to take over an aircraft and suicide themselves into a damned building."
Hell, no one knew it was a terrorists attack until later on that day and it was all speculation up until later. Even when we knew of the attacks and the plane in western PA was still up in the air what could we do? The military aircraft we have in the air already are not usually armed to the teeth and capable of shooting down a jet airliner that is filled with American civilians. You can't just arm and fuel and get aircraft into the air in a heartbeat (it's not like driving a car). If we targeted it from the ground, what if we hit the wrong plane? Etc., etc., you can second guess everything until you are blue in the face and try to lay blame but it's all bull****. You can plan and plan and make sure it doesn't happen again but it only means that those who wish to harm us will find new ways that are unprotected to attack.
You equating 9/11 and Bushes shock to some sort of lack of defense in case of a nuclear threat from offshore is assinine and damned obscene. you are using the deaths of thousands to twist and distort the truth to your political parties advantage and it's sickening.
