Cops in traffic control situations are there to preserve authority with respect to traffic infringements, not go looking for capital criminals …By having a presence on the roads, it’s a way of maintaining discipline among drivers, because you never know when or where a cop will be setting a trap. If you happen to be one of the ones targeted, you have your given right to fight it, and of course you can bitch. This is the program they started on in the town I work in and it works. I actually feel bad knowing that I'm speeding in a slow zone and that I could kill a kid. The cops sitting there giving tickets is a deterrant to others who can't read the signs in every yard on the block.


Look, in a residential area, you have to go slow. It sucks but that's the way it is. I get reminded constantly by tickets from cops. I just retested because I went above 6 points for going 80+ in a 55 zone. I don't begrudge the cop that wrote the ticket either. I knew the law, I broke it and I paid the tickets. If you want facts - here's one - driving faster doesn't get you there much quicker.

You also have to wear your seatbelt. There's zero excuse for not doing this. Anyone who doesn't and tries to to argue against it is just damned uninformed and/or foolish.



Word of advise - You do not need to tell your insurance Co. They can find out on their own if they want. No need to pay more insurance if you don't have to. Also, do what was stated above. Fight it and/or plea down to a lesser charge. It's a pain, and you're using your time off to go to court but it might be worth it.

BTW - My 1st rant about a speeding ticket got me rants from a lot of people -people are being nice to you. The fines do suck and I can understand you being upset, believe me.

I agree with that. But it doesn't mean that you can't get pissed and rant about it, right? I just find it funny how I see people all day long speeding WELL over the limit, like 20 or 30 over and there are no cops in sight. I see a group of kids in a car next to me blazing up a joint and drinking and there are no cops around. I see butt-holes run stop signs and red lights because they don't want to wait and cut in front of people almost causing a crash and there are no cops around. But speed a little while trying to get to work and you got red cherries balzing all up your a$$. Here is St. Paul they DON'T do there jobs.

And I didn't mean everyone on here is an a$$ hole. It was just directed at he one guy that is being one. :thumbs:

A kid was sitting atop the tailgate in the bed of a moving truck, while going up a slight incline he lost his balance and fell to his death. Going thirty, even thirty-five in the same 25 MPH zone where there are no kids anywhere within proper visibility is not unsafe. Driving 40 when you see kids all over the road is...again, responsible driving is more important than lowering the limit to stupid low speeds.

I agree completely. Having cops sit in one spot for an entire day 'trapping' motorists is not going to help anything other than the police budget. What they should be doing is busting people for not using their turn signals, that causes way more accidents then speeding.

What really sucks is when they are trapping at 5 pm on the city's major expressways. They get someone pulled over and all of a sudden traffic is backed up for miles cuz everyone is rubbernecking.

I'm not saying it's ok to speed, but the amount of trapping going on is insane and has no impact other than it fattens their budget.

In other word you were speeding then too. You were going to fast for the conditions. If you couldn't stop you were too close or going to fast. You broke the law and you got caught. doing 41 in a 30 doesn't sound like you were trying to keep your record clean... just hoping you wouldn't get caught.

You said the only part you couldn't see was were the cop was..... what if the cop was a kid... you could easily have run over them. Dont' want a ticket don't speed.

I know someone who was going with the flow ( which was speeding ) and he got pulled over. When he asked why he got stopped and not the others he said " cuase you pulled over first and i couldn't stop them all"

AS far as being an a$$ he was doing his job. In my job I don't install windows on someones computer if they don't own windows because that's against the law and not part of my job.

Slow down or get over it...I hope he gave you one for the seatbelt too.

There is another side to it Ya_know. A 25 MPH limit persuades people to detour around the low speed limit. Reduced traffic at reduced speeds is good for residential areas.

The cop was sitting on the side of the road in an UNMARKED cop car. In fact, just so you know, it was a maroon Crown Vicitoria. I didn't know he was a cop until I got about a block away and seen the light bar in the back window... but by then it was too late because he had tagged me with the radar in the back of his car. In fact, he started rolling the lights before I even passed him so I knew I was done as soon as I got up to him.

Oh and no matter WHAT he was doing/driving he didn't make you speed your foot did. I'm sick of people like you speeding through my neighborhood too. Now with all the new houses going up we have lots of kids in the area again. I've been seeing a lot more accidents lately.... Slow down and pay attention. Driving is not a right it's a priviledge. I think you got me confused with Spork. I was the one that said I couldn't see the cop around the turn, but he was almost 300 feet away when I did see him. Going 40 in a car with antilock disk breaks on all 4s, running on a set of Potenza performance tires, the stopping distance at that speed is somewhere well below 80 feet with an average reaction time. I knew what I was doing...and noone was at risk.

The real problem is lack of responsibility and that's what should be attacked, not the action of speeding.

I agree that residential speeding is bad and irresponsible, but just because a speed limit is 25 mph doesn't mean that it's in a residential area.

Irresponsible and inconsiderate drivers are the real problem and they are the ones who should be pulled over and cited. So how often does someone get pulled over for not using their turn signal or for driving too slow and causing traffic to pile up behind them and creating an unsafe driving environment? Not nearly enough, instead they focus on speeders cuz it's easy pickens and people rarely fight the tickets.

Oh, I don't disagree with you at all...I feel the same way, especially with cocky inexperienced drivers, or worse, the cocky experienced ones. As often as I thought I knew what I was doing, I have f'ed up enough time that I know I don't know everything about physics, and quite possibly overlooked a few key variables at times! I totally deserved the ticket I got for the passing, I was just fortunate the cop only caught the tail end of the event, and he didn’t take me to jail!

Oh I can agree with some of what you have here. BUT that doesn't mean they should not stop speeding as well. Not being a policeman and in fact not even a driver ( I know I'm not a good driver and with my depth perception so messed I won't drive) I couldn't tell you how often the other stuff happens though I know it happens fairly often... at least here as I've been a witness to some of it. I mean I've seen it often enough in my small experience to know it happens a fair amount though. The only areas around here that are posted that low are residential or areas where higher speeds are dangerous..... ( falling rocks/construction/dangerous roads. )

Speed limits are Tax and have NOTHING to do with safety.... Consider it a tax bill because that all it is....

I said my puriferal vision isn't what it needs to be to drive. When riding in a car most cars are coming head on not from the side. so yes I can see what is going on. I refuse to take the risk with my poor side vision that some little kid isn't going to run out and I won't see him. Yes that is a risk anyway but combine that with the fact I've never been a very good driver....

I always speed, take turns too fast, and normally drive how "I" want. Does that mean I run the risk of being caught? Sure does! Am I looking to be immune from these restrictions... of course not, but it sure would be damn cool. Yes I drive fast in residential areas (as I do everywhere else), but if I see kids or people near the street, then of course I'm going to slow down. I'm not a f*cking careless idiot. I'm not pi$$ed at the cop for doing his job, I'm pi$$ed because I got caught. Yes there have been times where I could've been caught for MUCH worse... thankfully it's only something as simple as this. Plus I'm going to take this to court and fight it to an "Under 10MPH" ticket because I know I wasn't going over 10MPH like the cop stated (he said I was going 11MPH which bumps me into the higher ticket charge).

So quit barking up my damn tree and acting like you are "holier than thou" or some sh!t like that.

Maybe you two should hire an exterminator to remove those bugs!

My wish for you two is EVERY single time you speed I hope you get a ticket!

Kids often dart out from areas blocked from vision and high speed can and does lead to traffic fatalities and other accidents.

As a child I ran out into an alley where cars almost never traveled and the new hick neighbors were tearing *** down the road faster than they should have and knocked my *** down the street and unconscious. I woke up and went home with everyone wondering how I was alive. The a$$h)l3 driving had the b@!!$ to say something to me and the other kids started yelling at him for speeding and the like.

As a child my friend john ran out into the street and a speeding car clipped him and tore his lip partially off and he had to go to the hospital.

As a child one of the kids in my school was hit at the bus stop by a speeding driver and his brain damage eventually lead to needed surgery and him dying on the operating table. I forget his name and face buy I remember the people crying about him dying.

If you can get mad at getting a ticket that you deserved then we can get mad at what appeared an attack on a police man doing his job. having experienced kids getting struck and killed because someone thought they could handle things at what ever speed i expressed my opinion in the hopes if that applied to you, you'd think a little more about it and whether or not you speed maybe be more aware than you were. I've never seen you drive. I don't know if you are just a speed freak or some nut case.... but my comments made you think didn't they. I hope you never find out that you are wrong about being "in control " at whatever speed you are driving at... but I hope you'll think about it.
