I disagree ya_know, being religious and all, guess I have to. I dont have faith because I think I will be immortal, but because if I believe and follow my religion properly I will be rewarded, this is all just a test of God, and there are many forces, that we cannot yet comprehend, I sometimes try to think what there was in teh beginning of time, was there such a time, whence did God come to be, was it always like this, has this all happenned before, you see, some things are just outta our league, and I for one accept that as it is.

but MK, with global news and the Interweb, how come ppl still belive local media so much? and are so uninformed as it were?

Because there are too many people out there that think if the quest for knowledge and information takes longer than the average crap it's not worth the time. :(

Years ago they had many gods, and they were all there to explain the things they didn't know. One god was in the sea, the other the sun, another to command them all, Romans change the Greek's to their own gods, and they all BELIEVED, because they couldn't explain what they didn't know or understand. Even today, with science as advanced as it is, there are things we still don't know, and can't comprehend. Does that mean we need an entity to worship until we can discredit that association with an honest to god (pardon the pun) explanation?

While the tpoic if religion is brought up i might as well post my two cents. I grew up in a christian family and have lived the greater part of my life beliving in god and religion. But over the last couple years i came to notice how people in religious circles often follow a narrow minded and elitist point of view, which is something that didn't sit well with me. After that little revalation i started looking into the topic in a little more detail, partly as i couldn't understand how my life had taken the paths it had over that years. Looking into history and other religions (mainly norse and other "dead" religions) I've noticed a lot of discrepencies and facts that the bible doesn't account for. Things such as the dreaded "hell" of the christian religion being derived from Hel, the norse goddess of the underworld. and that little to no mention of the fact that diring jeses' time there were a number of magicians around at the time that performed similar feats to him as well as made similar claims to be god sent or of god. There are a number of other things i have noticed as well but i'm not going to get into everything. In the end i've come to believe there was some force responsible for creating existence, but to say that we have to follow a strict set of rules to go to a paradise and failure to do so condemns you to eternal torture is just a method of comtrol devised my man to rule over tha masses. If god wanted robots, we would not have been given free will. and a strict guideline on living defeats the purpose of free will. In the end, i've determined that i have never been a man of god, but rather a man of honor. I live based on a set of moral principles and try to be the best i can, becuase i feel it is right, not because i'm afraid of hell. To do good for the wrong reasons defeats the purpose.

As for faith, we all have faith in something, no execptions. Unless, of course, one happens to be omniscient and actually knows, rather than believes. I lump so-called scientific fact in there as well; a collection of measurements, recorded over time and given a plausible explanation. The quest for truth and understanding is not truth itself, nor understanding.

Death and suffering are the human condition. It's a part of being born and living on this planet. Hopefully, we will all have compassion for others because we are all in it together. Nature is a deadly force killing at random, we all know this. Unfortunately, religion and culture create different ideologies that cause humans to hate people that are different from themselves. We all want to be special and believe that our way is better and we are the chosen ones. Well people, it's all an illusion, wake up and realize that we are really all the same.

Is it time then to introduce a universal religion? A metric system, or like the Euro...

It's time for EVERY religion to take a serious look at their extreme members and decide if they want to be represented that way.

Me personally, I just stopped caring. If there is a god he's not what anyone thinks he is. Some people think I lack faith. No. I just have more faith in myself than an omnipresence being who is all powerful but doesn't do squat. There are simply to many holes in explainations of how he works. If there truly is a god I'm sure nobody has the whole story right as I'm sure it's like a kindergarten child trying to understand advanced astrometrical mathematics (or something like that). Our minds just simply lack the capacity to truly comprehend it all. So again, I just stopped caring. I live my life as I see fit, which happens to coincide with his views so I'm sure all things will work out in the end. For clarification I'm a non-practising agnostic.

I think that maybe this was the midgard serpent writhing, perhaps awakening and readying itself for the final conflagration of ragnarok.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe we could meet and chop each other good in a decent battle so we can get in. Remember, you can't get in unless you die in battle.
