No, not really. The last time someone paid attention to what I said Windrivers almost got sued, half the members left (including me), and someone got a picture of me in a grass skirt covered head to toe in cool-whip and riding a pot-bellied pig.Quote:

Yeah, you coming down again? Now that your used to it you won't squeal as much
I'm a part of the Asheron's Call 2 MMORPG... people have been saying it's gonna go under for the past 3 years... it's still there... same thing here really, I doubt it will close anywhere in the foreseeable future. And i don't even work for them...Quote:

A few people have come and gone. That Other Site seems to be competing real well. When I go there, about 2/3 of the names there are also members here. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Actually, it is.Quote:

Then fight after fight after fight I grew tired of participating and decided to stay out of most of the threads because they just turned into troll bait or flame wars.
Sorry if you disagree, this is just my view on things

I also have to ad that, back in the early days driver sources were a must, but for the last few years with win2k and xp and good online sites from manufacturers ,drivers have'nt really been an issue, like it used to be with older hardware and OS's,atleast for me.
You don't have to pay to use this forum.
yet...Quote:

Like ya_k said, less traffic, less advertising, less revenue for jupiter, equals no site for everybody
Who needs to pay for drivers when you have Google? I don't think the lower amount of users has anything to do with less of a need for tech support because there is another tech forum that I visit that has over 600 people online at any given time of the day.
How much is your time worth is the question .. Jupiter media currently put it at $29.95 a year for this, so for an individual maybe not, get googling, but if you do it over & over ? Anyway that's the idea  , be it good or bad ... I'd of course be confus-ed on that bit :p :thumbs2:Quote:

Losing the contribution of a member of the stature of Adept will disadvantage any forum - at least it was due to re-ordering of personal priorities, not any quarrel with WinDrivers. The same cause applies to the circumstances of several techs who post infrequently at the moment, eg NooNoo who is heavily committed with study and personal matters.
Burn-out is another thing, after 15 years of computing and 4 years posting on WD, I've got really fed up with computers and have basically taken a rest from computing this year. I got an E-MU 0404 sound card, new laser printer and CD printing inkjet at the beginning of the year, they are all unused & my P4 hasn't been booted up for 3 months.
Other factors already mentioned by other posters will be having their effect. Some queries are answered immediately in chat and never appear on the forums. The predominance of WinXP and the accompanying need to update hardware has reduced the call for older drivers, and changed the balance of tech queries toward security issues. A lot of the most active forums have HijackThis logfile analysis, which we don't, and even though you see a lot of repeat traffic ("I got infected again..." - mental image of Homer Simpson holding a skunk at arms length, "Marge, this skunk sprayed me... Aauuggh, its doing it again...!! ), if people do a search on a malware name, they'll get help sites with HijackThis forums. If they get helped there, they are likely to return there for other issues.
Here is another reply. It is not lame and neither is Windrivers. That is all.
... and another reply ...
If you think it's lame, what are you doing to improve the situation?
Personal responsibility? EEaargh... my eyes are burning! :pQuote:

I know that there are changes occuring and things are moving. It just may not be apparent.Quote:

Wow...16:55 EDT, we have had 109 registered users visit...the place is boomin'!
110 out of 45,515 have visted today= 0.002416785675052180599802262990223That's 1/4 of 1 percent of all users that have visted today. Granted I know that people have left, only come back once in a while etc, but that's alot of members not accounted for that obviously
I used to remember that at times there were way more people than just 100 visting the website
JTS for example has 77/221 people visting today. I know that it is a smaller site, but a good majority of those 221 people did come from here. I would say maybe about 150 members that Windrivers has lost went over there, and those were alot of the long time members of WD
It's too bad the site has just gone downhill since it's peak 3 years ago.
those numbers really don't mean anything IMO ,over at speedguide right now for example, there are 28 users out of 116,419 members, thats a fairly busy site.
but if those numbers did mean something, then this site is busier.
besides, all in all,WD has NEVER been a "smokin' " site! IMO relatively speaking.
it is what it is. :)
Thanks for all your input on this thread. If anyone has any ideas on improving the site please feel free to e-mail or PM me with the details. I am closing this thread now, it seems like it's gone as far as it's going.
