plane hit world trade center

It's a new day in my country. All our problems seem so small now compared to the problems and suffering of the US. This silly and horrific act has affected everyone all over the world. To my American mates on this forum, although I don't know you, my thoughts are with you guys.
What do you guys think would of happened had they found out the second or third plane before it struck? Do you think they would of scrambled your jet fighters and shot it out of the sky, civilians and all? I can only imagine what must go through the mind of the person that would of had to make that decision!

It will take some time to find those black boxes if they are all in one piece.
The explosions and crumbling buildings will for sure test the durability of those black boxes to the limits. I'm pretty sure the fbi and cia are already gathering those tapes from owners who taped the whole epsiode with their home video cameras to gather evidence and are using the Boston airport security tapes to search for any suspects caught on camera.
Theses groups have more resources now than ever including a new website just put up hours ago to get tips from the witnesses.
Hopefully we'll get an answer real soon.
But the rescue efforts should be top priority for now.

I keep hearing this news, and like everyone else, hope that I will be able to wake up from this nightmare.

CNN.com now has footage of the first plane hitting the WTC tower 1, in addition to the other one.

As for the local network stations being out in NYC, most local networks except for CBS had their tower on top of the 1st tower of the WTC, which is no longer broadcasting. CBS has their transmitter on top of the empire state building (washingtonpost.com story)

I for one will be forever changed by these events. Right now, the record for the largest one day loss of life in the US is the battle of Antietam, with over 23,000 killed or wounded. "Consider that Antietam resulted in nine times as many Americans killed or wounded (23,000 soldiers) as took place on June 6, 1944--D-day, the so-called "longest day" of World War II.* Also consider that more soldiers were killed and wounded at the Battle of Antietam than the deaths of all Americans in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican War, and Spanish-American War combined." We can only hope that we don't reach that magnitude of casualties.

Whilst I would not wish to condone the terrorist action discussed here it may be that the Palestinians burning USA flags etc about which you complain, are somewhat agrieved about their treatment by the USA, in particular about the support given to creating the state of Israel in their homeland.
Just as you are now agrieved and have cause, so have they.

Do anybody know what it feels like knowing that the government of your country (yeah, that piece of land in the world which you learn to love no matter what) is in its place because represents benefit to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?
Why don't you ask people from Cuba, Panama, Argentina, VietNam, Laos, Camboya, and so many other etcetera, that i'm too much stressed to name, what it feels like in the deepest of your heart to know that all the things that they tech you... to vote, to respect democracy are just CRAP.

Unfortunately, Rotten doesn't have his facts straight. First off, the US had nothing to do with the creation of Israel... that was done completely by the UK. The Palestinians never had a homeland per say, actually that area was split into Jordan and Israel by the British anxious to resolve the political pressure that was on them.

Now, to justify this sort of horror by saying, "well that attack was bad, but it was America's fault in the first place" is wrong and almost evil. There is absolutely no justification for any attack on anyone, let alone an attack on this scale. And to start blaming Israel for a terrorist attack in the US is misguided. It's like punching someone and blaming them for the punch because they're friends with someone else.

What we need now is to stick together and support one and other. No matter who did what to provoke or aide in this sick act of war, it is not tolerated. They have ruined families, friends and loved ones. I have heard many time since watching the news that this is being caompared to Pearl Harbor. They are right....in fact it could be considered worse when you look at casualities, destruction and aftereffects. But let it be known that once again, "they have awoken a sleeping giant" and justice will prevail.

Short history lesson:
The horrors of the Holocaust produced world sympathy for European Jewry and for Zionism, and although Britain still refused to admit 100,000 Jewish survivors to Palestine, many survivors of the Nazi death camps found their way there illegally. Various plans for solving the Palestine problem were rejected by one party or the other. Britain finally declared the mandate unworkable and turned the problem over to the United Nations in April 1947. The Jews and the Palestinians prepared for a showdown.

Although the Palestinians outnumbered the Jews (1,300,000 to 600,000), the latter were better prepared. They had a semiautonomous government, led by David Ben-Gurion, and their military, the Haganah, was well trained and experienced. The Palestinians, on the other hand, had never recovered from the Arab revolt, and most of their leaders were in exile. The Mufti of Jerusalem, their principal spokesman, refused to accept Jewish statehood. When the UN proposed partition in November 1947, he rejected the plan while the Jews accepted it. Here in Israel we feel your losses and I express my deepest condolences to all America and the families of those affected directly by the heinous events that took place yestrday. I am from Chicago originally, and I have family in NY (some in Manhattan). It was horrible yesterday trying to call to see if my cousins are ok and not being able to get a phone line into the US.
We all are mortified by the pictures we see in the papers, TV and Internet. We have held prayer sessions after work to pray for the victims well-being and everyone has een deeply affected by this.
