Yeah,.. you're not kidding! I did the cape quest last night (or at least tried to). Spent about an hour traveling around doing alll the retarded trivial crap JUST to be able to at least get to the mission part of it. THen I do the mission, the baddies are like 2 lvls higher than me. I died twice last night and now have nearly 20K debt. Not to mention that after investing nearly 2 hours on this mission,.. the mission just aborted randomly and told me I failed when I was soooo close to completing it. And it never said anything about being timed so I have no idea wtf was happening.Quote:

Another thing,.. I hate teh chat window now. Too confusing. I don't understand why they couldn't just add new features without Fing with everything else? It's like having to learn a whole new game now.
When I tried it on the Test Server, Lost were attempting to destroy the Hero 1 Memorial. Since I could not hold them all back (solo tanker), the mission failed.Quote:

BTW, the Terra Volta Trial, nuless it's been fixed this AM, is nigh impossible to complete at this time. Not worth the debt right now.

Not worth the debt. This is true.
Interesting comment picked up from the COH Forums.
I made a Board account just to voice my opinion on the new patch. Capes = Good. Every single thing you've done with the enemies = bad. Guys, I know what you were thinking, and it sounds good on paper; "ooh, wouldn't it be neat if enemies had more status powers to befuddle heroes with?" Yes, if there are one or two boss enemies that hurl them amidst the chaos of the numberless minions. But anything lower than a boss doesn't need anymore than one or two attacks, and certainly not the status powers we see them throwing around. Why? BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO FIGHT 20 AT ONCE. This is like if all the zombies in Resident Evil also happened to be Jackie Chan. It's ridiculously unfair.
Fix the Ruin Mages, and fix them first thing you do. As they are, it is unnacceptable. I don't care what class you are, if you get within 15 feet of one of these guys, you are dead. Period. Why? They hold you over and over, and you cannot get away, no matter what you do until you die. That's not a challenge, that's equivalent to a Dev sending me a tell saying I now have 1200 debt for no reason. Oh, did I mention that the ruin mage's Ground cages plucked me out of the air as I was hovering many, many feet above him? I don't remember that happening before, but if it did, cut it out. Ground powers do not reach fliers, otherwise what's the point of having the hover power in the first place?
While we're at it, get rid of the Shocker's hurricanes. You nerfed smoke bomb, fine. However, you seem to have taken smoke bomb's power and put it into the shocker's hurricane, because I was experiencing the same effects as my enemies had been experiencing the day before: out of ten attacks, 9 missed. Even my SO ACC slotted power missed every time. Unacceptable. They shoot blasts that stop me dead in my tracks, turning off all my toggles, have a constant smoke bomb field around them so i can never hit them, and have a posse of enemies around them that hit me with very large, very hurty stone fists that I can't do anything against.
Spawns in missions were too high. I don' think i was able to complete a single mission all day, unless i purposefully fought enemies that were green and grey. Every one of my characters amassed massive debt because mobs that i could take on single handedly before all of a sudden did twice the damage they normally do at that level. Not to mention doing it while being stunned, held, slept until dead.
Soloing as many classes is hard, but soloing as a scrapper is pretty much impossible now. All a scrapper has to rely on is melee: when all of your minons have crippling to the point of being able to literally do nothing status attacks, all you can really do is stumble around and watch your character die before he even gets within hitting range.
Also, I haven't heard anything about the Vahz. I was in a mission with mostly vahz my level (17), morts and such, and zombie vomit and crossbow bolts were doing upwards of 60 damage per shot. I literally lost all my health in an instant stepping off an elevator. Vahz damage was always ridiculous, and it seems that zombies' vomit was never classified or able to be defended against, but it seems to do even more damage now. Is this true?
Listen, status things are great and all, but i want to hit things and/or shoot things. If you make it a chore to do those two things, if i have to wade through 5 stuns, 4 sleeps, a hold and a death before i can hit an enemy three times, i will not renew my PlayNC account. 15$ a month is too much to ask for cryptic to bully me and my hero. At early levels now, the game is almost impossible. I can't imagine having a succesful enough day where enough went right that I actually progressed toward a level rather than amassing another debt pool. That's not fun guys. Watching my personal super hero be rendered powerless by a street punk with some stone fists is not only unfair, but un-fun. When your game becomes un-fun, you lose my 15$.
Agreed
However,.. only if it's true. I will play tonight and see for myself. I sure hope it's not as bad as it sounds from that post. If it is,.. then I might just have to cancel my subscription. I don't play this game every night just to rack up massive debt. Like I said,.. debt is "part of the game". But it should be "part" of the game and not "all" of the game.
That was one of the more eloquent posts.Quote:

More complaints were made about how even minions are a difficult thing to confront as a solo hero now.
That being said - see you tonight. ;)
I should be on at around 9:30 EDT.
Great,.. after all this I can hardly wait to play now. :rolleyes:Quote:

Good Post..
I would still like to know how I got killed while standing by the Rail Station when I first logged on last night? Maybe it was my newbness in thinking that I was safe cause I was standing next to the little police thingies that are supposed to be there to protect you.
All I know is I went AFK for about 15 minutes, came back and I was dead.
Wow,.. there is no escape. Even the train station is no longer safe. Bwahahahahaha!!! NExt time you know,.. Miss Liberty will start firing blasts at ya. :eek2:Quote:

Greetings, City of Heroes fans! Aura has posted a quick update regarding issue # 2.
Hi everyone.
Here’s the latest on the main issues concerning you in the Shadows of the Past Update. We’re working hard to resolve all issues.
Right now (2am CDT), the following hot fixes are being pushed to The Training Room (Test Server). Soon thereafter, during Friday’s normal maintenance window (between 8-10am CDT), these hot fixes will be pushed to the live servers:
• Missions
-Adjusting the difficulty of the final mission of the Terra Volta trial.
• Villains
-Fixing bug with the Rikti causing their swords to inflict far too much damage.
• The Hollows
-Lowering the maximum level of spawns near the entrances to the zone.
• Badges
- The Freedom badge will have an icon.
- Fixing several Accolades so that players now receive the correct bonus.
- Fixing bug related to Accolades and leveling up that made characters appear to have the wrong number of Enhancement slots while training.
• Powers
-Fixing a display bug with Hasten where, if Hasten ended while a Power with a long recharge time was recharging, the Power would appear as ready to use before it had finished recharging. Actual recharge times will remain unchanged.
• Server Stability
-Fixing various server stability problems.
So hang tight everyone! Serious improvements are on the way. We apologize for any/all frustrations you are experiencing in the meantime but appreciate your patience while we make things right so you can enjoy Issue #2: Shadow of the Past to the fullest!
Please feel free to check these changes out for yourself on The Training Room at your earliest convenience.
Thanks much,
-Aura

Images posted on the coh boards that are now down due to "maintenance" (i.e. too many people were bitching).
Another informative post at COH:
I'd like to open the discussion about the lower levels. You know the levels this patch was aimed at? I understand there are problems with Rikti swords and Terra Volta Respec Trial, but this patch has really hurt the low level game.It darn near eliminated soloing missions as well.
Trolls - Lots of Super Strength / Stone Melee Powers. So much so that Buckshot and Gunner mobs don't even use the weapon anymore. These guys IMO are the most balanced of the villain power additions. Tough but Survivable.
Outcasts - Whoa, these can ruin your day. Why give them so many powers? What was the point?
Shockers
Now have a Debuff (whirlwind) and O2 Boost? Why? First the debuff is a killer, because while a "ranged" architype they hover and park themselves over the top of the melee and turn it into a whiff fest. And every hit you do land, they heal anyway. They are actually more difficult now than the Tsoo Sorcerer.
Bricks
They get stone armor, fine. No real issues here.
Cooler
Nice to see some Ice Melee mobs. No big deal.
Torch / Scorcher
Park themselves outside of melee and rain Flares until the cows come home. Annoying but survivable as a melee.
Outcast Base Missions - Hollows
Really freakin difficult, but survivable up until the bosses. Why does "Electric Eel" have a sleep that he can attack you through without you waking up? The bosses regen health pretty quick too, too quick. I spent a full tray of inspirations against him got to 1/3 health, and no end. THat was with run and rest tactics. Even as a tanker he has a melee attack that hits for 105 with Fire Shield fully slotted Green DO's. You need to fix these missions.
Tsoo
Too many caltrops. And how come I can toss caltrops with my Fire/Dev blaster at mobs and while they run around for a few seconds get to jump out of it? My tanker or scrapper wasn't able to leap at all when they used them on me? Definitely a good for the goose should be good for the gander here.
Missions In general
They are way too difficult now. I did "unlucky pete" mission. Survived it barely but took 1.5 hours? As a casual gamer I rarely have that much time to devote in a single sitting. They need to be adjusted. Seeing Unlucky Pete used to be a Front Loaded realtively easy/passable mission.
I just think a mid level casual gamer really got hurt by this patch. Taking away the soloing in a reasonable time frame where old missions took 15-30 minutes, and now can take upwards of an hour. Don't get me wrong I like the occassional group scenario, but most of my gaming time comes in short sections. I bought and play CoH based on the experience of jumping in for a quick few and actually accomplishing something meaningful to my character and hero concept. Now it doesn't seem like that will be as possible or plausible as it used to be.
Some of my characters (one with * are ones I examined the new patch with)
Fire/Ice Tanker - Lvl 14 - Justice*
MA/Regen Scrapper - Lvl18 - Pinnacle *
Emp/Rad Defender - lvl14 - Pinnacle
Fire/Fire Tanker - lvl20 - Pinnacle
Fire/Dev Balster - lvl30 - Pinnacle
Ice/Storm Controller - lvl 7 - Pinnacle*
BTW - HUGE Thanks for the MA changes. I was seriously impressed with the new animations.
My wife told me she encountered those eyes/beholder thingies yesterday and that they were impossible to deal with.
They see thru stealth and invisibility too.
Anyone else have info about them?

Did you also notice that the rate of caltrops use by the Tsoo far outpaced that of players? Odd.
What the hell is a caltrop?
I am sad that I will die when I play tonight. It's not like the fun action dolls game it was a week ago.

I don't mind the baddies haveing more powers and the like but the fact that they don't offer any more XP for it and they decreased the potency of a lot of powers (esp. controllers for some damned reason).
I'm not seeing the difficulty holding minions that some are describing. The issue is that there are more LT's and Bosses now that we can't hold so it's a major pain in the ***. My smoke does only an unmodified 5% acc debuf instead of it's normal 10%. With 6 SO's I could have taken it to a 30% acc debuff which would have been awesome but now with 6 SO's I can only take it to a 15% acc debuff which isn't worth the INF spent on the 6 SO's IMHO, not to mention the slots. Also, it's meant to be a power that gives stealth but I noticed several times last night that it is no longer functioning as a stealth power at all or is greatly reduced. I'd smoke em and be beyond aggro range and they'd aggro anyway. WTF? I'll keep using it until respec when I'll grab some different stuff that might be usefull.
I'm on as Aumakua sometime after 9 tonight I guess. On as MD tomorrow at 8pm if I hear back from you tonight Adept - (for your wife's TF).
I'll see you tonight, but did you not mean 8AM for the TF?Quote:

1) There's a infrequent (4 times today across all servers) server crash that Cryptic has tracked down to an OS issue. We're in a conference call with Microsoft right now working out a fix...and hopefully this will happen soon and few if any of y'all will notice. This is causing a lot of hairloss at Cryptic right now because we take server crashes personally, but few of y'all should actually be affected (knock on wood). *edit* Update: current plan is a rollback should not be needed. Probable fixes on internal test. More as we know it.
2) Cryptic also tracked down a powers bug that was giving Rikti up to double damage, causing some of the curses against them from fallen Heroes. Fix up ASAP. Our bad, not Microsoft's.
3) Yes, the Terra Volta Trial is currently harder than intended - in large part due to the Rikti bug. Fixing that and another tweak or two will make it easier, but DO realize that the intent is that that the TV trial will be freakin' hard - just not it's current freakin' nigh-impossible. After all, this is supposed to be a rare, character-life-changing event. In any case, it's under the watchful eyes of the balance gods, and feedback (continues to be) welcome, we're both listening and datamining.
4) The bad guys in the Hollows Trial were overachieving, and secretly snuck up to 2 levels higher than intended on occasion. They have received a stern talking to and promise not to do it after the next patch. *update*: The area near the entrance to the Hollows is toned down on the version in internal test.
5) Thanks much to the folks who helped out on Test Server to help catch the vast majority of stuff before things went live - we couldn't have done it without you.
Current plan is to have as much as possible fixed in a small update tomorrow - plans may change as intentions meet reality, but that's what the devs are trying for. *update*: Patch should be on test servers soon if all goes to plan.
Reporting because all the useful folks are in the conference call -

PS: The initial scouts testing the defenses of Paragon City are rumored to be expecting reinforcements now that a reconaissance report has been made back through the portals...

And the servers go splat!
Yes they did
Bah! That sucks. At least if the servers are going to go up and down, then they better be making some good fixes to this new patch. I expect no game interruptions tomorrow!
I expect my level 22 to still be there when I get back in. https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2005/03/1.gif
I used to play a game called Jumpgate. Jumpgate was a great game until they started having issues like this. Jumpgate is still around, but not nearly the game it once was because of these kinds of problems.
I hope they get this figured out cause people will get sick of this real quick and go elsewhere.
It may not sound fair, but in the competitive gaming community, there is little to no room for errors like these.
Come on CoH, I know you got it in ya!...
Must be a Windows "feature" that is giving them a hard time.
971M update occuring as I post this.
