Tarnation! I'm late! I think the bucket is good.
It takes Sandy three hours to paint a fence, and it takes Claude six hours to complete the same job.
How long would it take both of them working together at their normal paces to complete the same job?
__________
Two hours.
Sandy can complete 1/3 of the job in one hour and Claude can complete 1/6 of the job in one hour; therefore, together they can complete 1/3 plus 1/6 or 1/2 of the job in one hour. Consequently, the entire job can be completed in just two hours.
2 hoursQuote:

Is there an exact spot along the path that Captain Frank will occupy on each trip at exactly the same time of the day?
__________
Strangely enough there is!
If two people were hiking on the same day (one who started going uphill at 6 a.m. and the other who started going downhill at 6 a.m.) walking and resting the exact same way that Captain Frank did, at some point during the day, they would meet each other. This is also the same spot that Captain Frank would be, at the same time, on both days.
Yes?Quote:

Just some sort of justification for your answer would do it. if it fits. ;)
OK, If he left from the bottom and traveled up, and could leave at the sametime, or have somebody leave at the same time from the top, they would meet somewhere along the way - this would be the spot in question.Quote:
