Art said that his position starts him off at 50,000 dollars a year, and he'll receive a 10,000 dollars raise at the beginning of each year.
Ari said that in his position he starts at 25,000 dollars for the first six months, and gets a 2,500 dollars raise every six months after that.
"Well," said Art, "since I'll be making the most money for the next three years, the least I can do is buy the next round."
Who will make the most money each year, and by how much?
__________
Ari Gant will actually earn more than Art Bragg since Art will not receive a raise until the start of the second year.
In the first year Art will earn a flat 50,000 pounds. Ari, however, will earn 25,000 pounds in the first six months, and in the second six months he will earn another 25,000 pounds plus a 2,500 pounds raise.
At the end of the first year Ari will have earned 52,500 pounds. In the second year Art will get his 10,000 pounds raise plus his 50,000 pounds base, meaning in year two he will earn 60,000 pounds. Ari will earn 27,500 pounds for the first six months plus a 2,500 pounds raise, and for the second six months earn 30,000 pounds plus another 2,500 pounds raise for a total of 62,500 pounds.
Therefore, at the end of each year, Ari will always be 2,500 pounds ahead of Art.

Art makes more each year by

This is a running total...Quote:

Difference of 2,500
Third year:
Art = 180,000
Ari = 162,500
Difference of 17,500
Hmmm, let me try again from that angle:
Ari
52,500 year #1
57,500 year #2
62,500 year #3
$172,500 total
Art
50,000 year #1
60,000 year #2
70,000 year #3
180,000 total
Art makes more in a 3 year period by $7,500 total
If you need yearly differences:
Ari makes $2,500 more than Art, Year #1.
Art makes $2,500 more than Ari, Year #2.
Art makes $7,500 more than Ari, Year #3.
Ari starts out making 25000 a year. Looking at it every 6 months:
0 (starting) 25000
.5 years 27500
1 year 30000
1.5 years 32500
2 years 35000
2.5 years 37500
3 years 40000
Art however starts at 50000 a year and gets 10000 at the beginning of the year. Now assuming he won't get one when he starts....
0(starting) 50000
2 years 60000 (no rais till start of second year)
3 years 70000
Overall, Art got 20000 in raises where Ari got 15000 in raises. Since Ari made so much less, he still gonna make less as he got less raises.
Therefore each year:
Art makes more by 25000
Art makes more by 30000
Art makes more by 40000
least that is the way I understand the question to read?
Doesn't your scale for Ari provide for 7 pay periods in a 3 year period??Quote:

1.5 year 30000
2 years 32500
2.5 years 35000
3 years 37500
TOTAL = $187,500
Art:
50,000 year #1
60,000 year #2
70,000 year #3
$180,000 total
In this scenario, Ari makes $7,500 more in a 3 year period then Art.
Unless Ari's last raise don't actually count, because it is added after the pay period has been calculated already, so he would make a 3 year total of $162,500 so he ends up making $17,500 less in a 3 year period then Art.
Which makes me realize that RIOT has been right all along, !@#$!@#$# !!!Quote:

...i think someone got this already
I dunno, I've worked this thing so many times and came up with so many different answers, my head hurts!Quote:

Y'all wrong.
okay, I did misread the question.... going back:
they both start of at 50000 with Ari getting 5000 in raises at the end of the year (2500 in middle and 2500 at end) and Art getting 10000 in raises at beginning of the year.
Year 1 (starting) They make the same
Ari 50000 Art 50000
Year 1 end Ari makes more by 5000
Ari 55000 Art 50000
Year 2 start Art makes more by 5000
Ari 55000 Art 60000
Year 2 end they make the same
Ari 60000 Art 60000
Year 3 start Art makes more by 10000
Ari 60000 Art 70000
Year 3 end Art makes more by 5000
Ari 65000 Art 70000
Unless of course there is the highly unlikely chance that Art got a raise at the beginning of his first year, in which case he would make more every year, as his actual starting pay would be 60000.
