Me, too. Specialty programmers (not your regular C++/VB) get about 2X what we techs get here, and I make ~$35K. On the downside, I haven't seen very many listings for COBOL, FORTRAN, etc lately, they kind of peaked around the Y2K stuff.Quote:

I guess it is a regional thing - Raven gets 60k in Indianapolis, I make a little over 60K with overtime and call ins (I get paid for 6 hours to reset a switch after hours!)in Lafayette, Indiana. Well, I make near $36K per year base with incredible benefits. I'm hourly, so I get overtime. So, for Iowa, I would say anything over $30K and you're doing pretty well.
Now of course, that isn't including all the debt that I have... <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
Shhhhs, 65k a year and thats low. If I had that kind of money, I would have got my ferrari and god knows what else I would had.
I'm a computer technician, and the pay is not all that, the company relies that there is potential money to be earned.
But I'm just doing part-time, soon as I finished my Computing degree, its bye bye to them.
Although they want me to stay, bah laterz to them. (the one and only BigIkI)
Most of the tech I know make around 35K to 45K. That's enough to make a good living. Here in the Mid-West the cost of living is low. 11% below CA.
Since being a database VB & ASP programmer for about 2 years now, we make anywhere from 60K to 120K. A buddy of mine has been a programmer at the same company for 15 years and he make 94K.
I guess i'm slightly underpaid... I'm a 2nd and 3rd line support, with Sys admin as an extra role, basically sold out as a contractor in the Southeast, but full time employed by my company. 20k seems a little low to me.. 3.5 years experience, some qualifications, and a whole lot of eagerness.
Still.... at 22 yrs old, I guess £20k aint bad. £25 is the average round here.

I don't rate myself by what I make. I like the the job and people and I make a decent wage. There are thost who make more and I will make more too but I won't work 60 hours and be on salary doing it. I get paid hourly, no overtime and my weekends are free. I am also single. What more can I ask? I used to work 12-14 hours a day and get paid hourly and I had no life and by the time the IRS was done, the overtime wasn't worth it.
Im in the detroit area and I am at low to mid 40's for level 2/3 support. I think I am underpaid. Then again I cant think of any job I have had where I didnt think I was underpaid.
