I have seen a few Intel cpu's DOA, a few more AMD DOAs and a veritable buttload of cyrix DOAs.
I have, through excessive overclocking and inferior cooling, blown a few cpus up. I have found that as a general rule, if it works when you install it and there is adequate cooling, it will continue to work. Heat kills more processors than all other failures combined. <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">
had an intell 233mmx which would only run at 190 mhz. Took it back to the wholesaler, who LOST IT [ installed it in another CUST. system,I hear.] <IMG SRC="smilies/redface.gif" border="0"> Yes, they are now defunct..... <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
ones i had a problem in AMD
in intel 233 mhz i faced same problem than i have changed mother board jumber seting than its find in 233mhz
tried 3 mb's, two other techs, and Sandra.
New chip[266] worked fine. tried everything, but no-go . <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

2 intel Celron 366 retail box processors , that i still cant rule out mobo on , 4 AMD k6's 300 , 300 (iseem to have had lots of probblems with the 300's , but i think that whole batch was remarked 66Mhz FSB procs labeled as 100Mhz) , 350 and a single 450 , like 15(maybe an exageration , but i dont think so) K5 100's (all from the same distributor, and all from one of my local competitors) and 9 or 10 Cyrix chips.
on the odd side , i combed my hair with a classic pentium 200 (to prove that static would kill it)) , and its still running to this day as one of our accountants machines.
i also had an intel 486 40 , thats was relabel a 66 , and i set up as an 80 by accident , it cracked in half.
I have a poor opinon of AMD K6-2's have had many dump on me.
I only started using AMD processors again last year.
No Intel
1x AMd K6-2/350
1x Duron 700 DOA
I've seen probably 10-15 bad intel CPU's, mostly first generation socket Pentium 3's.
I've seen just as many bad AMD's, all socket cpus.
I don't want to count the Cyrix, Evergreen, PNY, etc... chips. Not worth the time.
Well I've never had a chip back bad but I did reseat a 486 and got confused about which way round it went (bad hair day)...
Got it 180 to proper way round and it started burning plastic. Switched off in hurry, figured buggered...
For a laugh I turned it round, fryed pin dropped off and I had to pare down the socket to get the chip back in. Turned the thing on expecting zip and *Jaw drop!!* amazingly it still works...
PS: It was my machine so I wasn't giving it back to a client <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">
I've never seen a bad CPU. Just CPUs that got in with the wrong company...

from the amout of pc I've seen in the past 7 yrs, I've only seen 2 amd's go up - 1 due to fan failure and the other, no freakin clue.
never seen a cyrix or intel chip go up....not yet... <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
ever noticed the slot 1/2/A never get as hot as a socket does?...hehe, I'd still buy a slot one today if they still made 'em...but oh well.
Out of all of the systems I've repaired, I've only seen 2. . . Both Cyrix - <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">
There is no such thing as a BAD Cpu, they are just misunderstood.
