I lower my loud stero at lights for the most part. I do understand what you mean about people who have to leave the stero up at full bass blast when they walk away from it. This one guy used to come into my store and he would leave his rolling flatbed of bass tubes outside cranked up to the max. You honestly couldn't hear people in the store when they spoke to you. I asked him to not come back anymore if he was going to park out front and leave his stereo on that loud. He never came back but I really don't care.
I have no problem with people with loud systems as long as they try to respect the other around them. The whole issue is with people who are just damn inconsiderate of others.
If it's summer and you have a system that is greater than 100watts - try to think of others - because they can hear it too. They might not like rap, punk metal, pop, polka or whatever the hell it is you happen to listen to. I personally don't think that listening to the dead kennedys sing holiday in cambodia needs to be heard a block away from my car, but that's just a personal opinion.

Then there is is the issue of the police. Can always call them :) . These guys are breaking the law as silly as it sounds.

I like to play my music loud in the car, mostly hard rap, but when I am driving down a street with small kids on it I turn it right down. A lot of the words in the music they shouldn't have to hear it from me. I also never play the music while I pump gas, that is rude. That's just my 2 cents

I have a fairly loud system in my truck (500W rms) and I love my music very loud. I also have several inches of Dynamat (sound deadening material roofers use) all the way around the inside of my truck. I can crank up Creed or Metallica all the way until my tweeters start to squeel and you won't hear a peep outside. I even bolt down my exterior parts extra tight so that my doors and exhaust don't rattle.
I also enjoy a wide range of music. In my CD case I have everything from ZZtop to Jay-z, Metallica to Mozart, Garth Brooks to Beethoven to Brahms. I love mainly any band with a smokin' blues guitar player. And whatever it is, is must be >>>LOUD<<< !

Here in Australia I read an article today that people can now be fined $200 for noise pollution from vehicles in New South Wales, though I don't know how they plan to enforce it or measure it? As for the rest of the Country, I hope they don't follow. What ever happened to free speech and all that, it seems to be getting lost under the weight of pollitical bull$hit. We should be allowed to do what we want, but Big Brother tells us otherwise. Yes, I agree, this should be within reason, but who are they to make this call? Why not just make stereos that can only go so loud as not to effect anyone, or make cars that can't go any faster than 100km/hours to stop speeding? It should be our call as individuals to make, since the decisions we make reflect who we are.

The older I get it seems the more delicate my hearing is............
I like mellow music now and I find that loud music irritates me most of the time......
If I feel in the mood for Loud heavy music then I have wonderful headphones so I do not disturb anyone eles delicate hearing.......

I think that AD has put his finger on the nub of the problem with very loud car stereos here...
I must admit, the best I've seen was a brand new Sub-Woofer going the way of Apollo 11 because it was wired wrong - while the vehicle was moving too.
CD

People listening to loud music and free speech arent even slightly related. Not even remotely. Get over it. Personally if the music is loud all around (not just bass) and the person listening to it hasn't slowed it down, I dont care how loud you play it. Now if its 2 AM and you're cruising through my neighborhood with your woofers loud enough to wake me up, you better know that you are tempting me to build a little antivehicle weapon to deal with your next foray. Common decency is all I ask for.
Now the only thing that I really have no tolerance for are extremly loud glass packs on a little POS Civic. Especially when they think that they're fast because they sound fast. Sorry, big V6 Blazer can outpace a stock Civic without redlining the engine or screeching the tires.

I like that high school kids here with their shade tree stereos. I think it is funny when their headlights dim and their car rattles louder than their music. Ohh and the distortion....that makes it even better. :p

I think this is all thirdfey was asking for when he started this subject was a little decency from the drivers around him. As with most disputes in life it's all a matter of someone's perspective. One person has the right to blast it and the other has the right not to want to hear it. It won't be fixed unless we infringe on someone elses' rights. We are in a routing loop with no Split Horizon to help us.

The only models I've seen are headphones. Wore them on a flight once. It's truly amazing how well they work.
