Acer 50 CDROM drives.
My GA-5AA, it also smoked and fried when i went to K6-2 500, and screwed the chip and video card also.
No one has mentioned making those damned networking cables. There is nothing I hate more than making any kind of networking cable.
Fortunately, now that I own my own store..I sell the ends, the crimp tools, and premade cable...But if anyone wants me to put one together, it'll cost em' ! :p
My worst PC part would have to be the ASUS P3V133 Slot one MB I installed in my Wife’s PC. Dang thing has never worked right, it originally ran for 3 weeks then started to give errors blue screen fatal exceptions ect.
Only way it will load now is from an image and then comes crashing down after a week or 2. I tried sending it back but was told it ran fine on WIN NT for 2 hrs (big surprise I can get it to run for a week or two before it fails).
So far its been back twice and don’t think I will send it a third, when I get enough cash it will get busted over my knee trashed and replaced. ASUS are usually great products but I have had no luck with this one.
I hate Western Digital hard drives, i've had them fail too many times. Also i dont know if i just have bad luck with CD burners but it seems like im always buying new ones.
The hard drives i use now are the IBM 75GXP and i've had nothing but good luck with them.
My worst Part is Gigabyte Mother boards like the Ga-5aa ,and the Ga-5ax and even a socket 370 board, the 5aa was defective, Played midis at half speed untill you put a load on the CPU, Poor AGP support on the 5ax and on the socket 370 I kept getting illegal operations once the 3com webcam was installed ( Ran good on my Asus P3v4x )
I won't build on a Gigabyte board again
My least favorite parts I've encountered...
1) Windows
2) AMD CPUs
3) Winmodems
4) Each and every CD-ROM and CD-RW drive I've encountered not lasting more than a year.
5) The Creative Labs Winsoundcards.
6) This crappy little Philips 2X ROM drive (with special adapter kit), which was my first CD drive.
7) The old I/O boards they made before they put all that crap on the mainboards and made it automated. Those things were brain surgery to configure (OK, first comm port is JP20-24, I need this pattern to set address/IRQ)...same with the printer and drives...and then trying to route all those cables...
Mice & Keyboards...
Disgusting devices - ever clean the cooties out of a mouse or keyboard?
EEEECH!!!
Kenny P.
minitower cases with vertically mounted power supplies (like emachines and some smaller compaqs) I've never encountered one of these cases that haven't turned a 5 minute job (hard drive mount for example) into a 30min to 1 hour blood bath with my hands spilling most of the blood. If they are going to make these little things that difficult to deal with, at least get rid of the sharp edges.
How bout scanners? I have an HP Scanjet 4c that has it's own SCSI card and still needs to be cajoled into working correctly quite often. I try hard to forget the parallel port models i had before this that were even worse.....
my Cyrix 233 M2 chip, my intel P75 was faster!!!!
i forgot about my abit lx6, the bios chip that comes with it is trash, i have one bought for pennies with a bad bios chip, a friend buys one it will only see 64 megs of ram out of a 128 slab, so old owner swears to flash the bios, so i tried ended up in boot block mode , piddled with it for a while, got it to flash , slapped the chip in mine , yeah mine works, put it back in his bios chip crapps, flash it again under boot block mode, bad sectors, swap in one for a hot flash boot it once run it a while, doa chip, i like waisted 4 chips in this before i placed a wrong chip in it and its still working and so is mine,, im afraid to go neer his board again, mean whle my old vxpro plus, udma, usb motherboard witha k6-2 450,originally only suported a 233, and was free.. still is the most stable thing ive got, will actually run pc133 128 meg dimms too ,
thank you GOD, for something that actually funtions better then it should!
I hate modem. Mitsumi CD ROMs I like for price/value/performance
Zip Drives. I hate'em all!
