War is good for business. If you want a war for economic reasons, at least admit it.
Here's a little something for everyone to think about.
I keep hearing that as soon as we change our lives and start living our lives differently is when the terrorists win.
I got a job a few months ago as a service technician, most of our accounts are large corporations. Almost every single place of business I go to on a daily basis has an entire security staff, noone can even get into the buildings through the front doors without signing in and showing your driver's license. About half of these businesses have their elevators outfitted with devices that disable the elevators unless you have a magnetic swipe card with clearance to operate the elevator.
One larger business with 9 different locations actually does background checks on ALL contractors and takes your fingerprints. Now remember, I don't work for that company, I just repair equipment in their building, but I have to sign a paper giving them the rights to do a full background check on me and a credit check. So anyhow, I got busted with a marijuana cigarrette 7 years ago when I was 22 and just about to graduate college, it was reduced to disorderly conduct, which is a misdemeanor offense. Now this company says I can never set foot inside any of their nine buildings to perform work for my company, even tho that's the only thing on my PERSONAL record. I'd be ok with them checking with every former employer of mine to ask about my past WORK performance, that would be spotless and filled with praise. Except our current laws would prohibit the past employers from saying anything other than whether I worked there or not, and when my start and termination dates were.
I guess my point is that I think the terrorists have already won. We are so focused on the war and catching Osama Bin Laden that we aren't even paying attention to all the personal freedoms corporate america is taking away from us. Luckily I had already been with my company for 3 weeks and displayed my work ethic sufficiently enough that they kept me even tho I can never take a service call for our largest account. Freedom is almost gone...
Anyone ever read 1984?

The French.
Who sells him his rifles and machine guns?
The Germans.
Who sold him his jets and missles?
The Russians.
We're all responsible for this @$$hole. We should all work together and correct this.
G-Damn! Hell of a good point!Quote:

So if we are all working together why has the US and the UK gone it alone when almost every other nation doesn't agree with military action at this time?
Because you guys know best and we should just follow you blindly? How many times has the US supported dictators / human rights violators / puppet regimes? And we should support you in this?
Sorry, but you are way out of line, you're bombing the **** out of Bagdad at the moment, what justification have you for that? There is very limited Iraqi military response. You're killing civilians to free them?
It is, so admit that the US has and will carry on doing this with other madmen. Maybe then you will get more respect.Quote:

Every country does this **** but at least other countries don't try to stand there afterwards blindly ignoring the fact that the troops and assets are deployed to bring down the madmen that they and their allies helped put there in the first place.
We all know that France are about as dodgy as it comes on doing this kind of ****, but guess what? That's why a lot of the nation don't believe in the war. They know what **** their government has been pulling and now they are mad about it. Same thing in the UK.
What do you guys do? Change the name of French Fries to Freedom Fries. What level of intellect does that portray to the rest of the world?
I think that is a hell of a good point, don't you?

That's interesting. Last time I checked we had 45 nations behind us. Hmm? That's more than we had in the first gulf war! (Slaps hands to cheeks in wonderous surprise) Wow!
Because you guys know best and we should just follow you blindly?
Apparantly. The nations of opposition would NEVER allow military action. They have let this go for over 12 years. They do not stand up for themselves and backup their words with action.

No more than any other nation. Don't make us out to be the great evil in the world. We do more good for the rest of the planet than anyone, so don't bite my hand.

Do you have any idea the kind of weapons we're using in there? We can completely destroy a subterranean bunker without structurally damaging the building over it. I could be wrong and I've heard no reports, but I'll be interested to see the casualty reports from this war compared to the last. The Iraqi response is, "Please, we're hungry. We cannot afford food because our leader spends the money building giant palaces to himself. Please give us food and the chance to make a living for ourselves."
Actually, I heard that there are 40 countries in the coalition in some respect; bottom line is all 40 agree that military action is necessary. Seems to me that France, Germany, and Russia are putting up a struggle because there is something ulterior motive…I don’t think they backed down because they are against war...Quote:

You want my honest opinion, France is afraid of what we will find when we get inside this régime and break down their intelligence. We may find that France was in a lot deeper than they were willing to admit to. Selling of arms to Iraq after the end of the Gulf war should be a crime. Yes, we assisted them many years ago when in their plights against Iran, but now the régime is against was we originally set out to accomplish. So it is time to shut them down, and try something else…less evil if you will.
We should prosecute all of the bastards involved in arms sales after the gulf war. If France was a culprit, maybe we should bomb their war machines and factories, let them start from scratch, but we wont fund your rebuilding effort like we will Iraq’s!
Ok, fine by me. Who shall we bomb for having backed and armed the Contras?Quote:

Just one of many examples.
One rule for all?

Oh yeah, forgot about the French nuke plant too. :D
Come on emr. I'll admit that a lot of people hate America. But EVERYONE hates the French. :D :p
Fair point meatwad. Glad we are still on speaking terms. :)
I guess we could go on like this all day.
Actually the French are alright if you know how to take them.
In small doses.
The Parisiens are another breed mind you. Now they really can be a nasty bunch. Good thing is I can swear at them in their own langauge with a lot more swear words than most of them know themselves so I get to de-stress in a nice way.
J'habite assez proche au Québec pour savoir que vous signifiez. :)
