He cares enough and shows concern that his mother is still smoking, and just want her to quit. Because she won't, he has what appears to be a hypocritical attitude? But is it really?

I myself hated smoking a lot longer than I enjoyed it; when I did it I hated it. It took loads of efforts, and quitting more than once, to get to where I am now. What is worse, once a smoker you still have urges, even years later. I once quit for over 4 years, and then went back to it for 4 more. Now, one year almost under my belt, it eats me up to know I have done this before. Quite simply the reason I started again…I forgot how much I hated it before, and didn’t realize it until it was too late, I was hooked again.

So to prevent any mistakes on my part by smoking again, I lash out against others that smoke, and profess how much I hate it, and how I don’t want it to be a part of my life. Really, I am not shoving anything down anyone’s throat, as much as I am doing everything I can to remind myself what I hated about smoking when I did it…since I don’t do it any more. If you don’t like it, then quit, and you can join me in the crusade!

I gotta admit that makes some sense. As I mentioned, I quit for 5 years before I made the mistake of picking it up again. I was never a militant ex-smoker. Tried to be understanding because I was there once too. Maybe if I'd been an a$$ to smokers and been hard nosed about hating smoking, I wouldn't be cursing myself for having taken it up again.

I quite smoking a year and a half ago, and don't miss it one bit. As a matter of fact, turns out I'm alergic to the smoke. Can't go into a smokey room without leaving with a migrane. Good thing our fair city went smoke free! Now I can go out and have a nice supper out, or go to the casino. I feel for the smokers with winter coming though. Gets mighty cold outside.

Way to go Ya_Know....hard thing to accomplish, but you've almost got it licked!

I have no problem with the ex smokers that take this kind of stance. I take it as encouragement. Its the non smokers that piss me off with their attitude. Yeah it stinks, yeah you can smell it, yeah I know I need to quit, but do you know what its like to be in my shoes? Nope. You have no idea what being addicted to cigarrets is like. Listen to what some of the ex-smokers are saying,

"I quit for 5 years and started again"

Thats how addicting it is. Smoking is an addiction that never leaves you, like alcoholism. So burn me at the stake and put me out of my misery. why dont ya..:) Damn I need a smoke... bbl.

I for one do not like cigarettes but don't understand the ban on smoking in public places. It's just silly IMHO.

Nicotine is a stimulant ! ... so having another won't calm you down at all ;) - it might make you think you are calmer, but physically it won't ...

As for smoking in public - the only place you can do my kind of smoking is in Holland !!! (without getting arrested anyway).

However the whole point of banning smoking in public places is to stop the government getting its arse sued off for allowing passive smoking - now when is this idea gonna spread to other airbourne pollantants which are much more prevalent ??? Like car fumes, factory fumes, power station fumes etc - they release a zillion times more toxins every hour of every day than I'm ever gonna manage on twenty a day in an entire lifetime .... :p - so :kiss: my :butt:

I know its cuz he cares, its just the way he says it to her that I don't understand, its like he's forgotten how he was, he was no different...but then again his father is an ex smoker and is the same way!! So maybe its a family thing! :p
