Now that the baby is born, she has hired a live-in nanny that sleeps on the bottom floor with the baby, while the parents get a full nights sleep on the third…Just how the hell is that going to pan out when the child is older? Boarding schools, summer retreats, I just don’t believe it!!!

Holy quacamole! The last thing I am is a bad parent. I just knew (from my experence in maryland's public schools, that my son would get lost in the shuffle). The school that he's in is small and welcomes parent participation. I even went part-time, so that I'd be available for field trips and also in each grade I've been the room mother. My son is flourishing where he is and my husband and I are glad that he's in private school.
As in the last part, I too had a hard time trying to conceive, however, I differ greatly from that rich sister. I don't have a nanny. Would never pan out my son to boarding school..

I always knew you were a great mom ;) . I just wanted you to elaborate more on the benefits of private school. Most here haven’t been, or have kids going, so it is nice to get a perspective from your eyes!

Amen to that.

I also have to agree that a small school is a good idea. But, it's still a dynamic system. You need caring intelligent teachers, involved parents, and small classrooms during the formative years to make it work; not mass production facilities. Mass production only works in college where you have a mature student.

Actually, I went to, at the time, largest high school in the state, had the largest graduating class in the state. Of course it was also one of the richest as well. Looking back, I wouldn't have given up any of those chances I got going through that system for any other in the state, private or public.

Curious, what state was that?

One has to wonder if you'd have the same viewpoint if it were one of the schools in downtown D.C.
