NO! I do not want those asshats in Hollywood butchering some of my favorite books. Ugh, I can guarantee the Foundation series would be rendered unrecognizable. The series might work as a miniseries on Scifi, but I wouldn't bet on it. Far too much of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress would be culled to make it movie length. Odds are they would spend 30 minutes on plot development and 90 on the part of the book that would benefit from major special effects (trying to avoid spoilers here).

E.E. Smith's "Lensman" series.

And don't even mention the pathetic attempt to bring that to life in two Anime cartoons, they storylines were so hacked up as to be almost unrecognizable.

A few of Niven's short stories would work, too. "Inconsistant Moon" comes to mind, perhaps even "Cautionary Tales".

Personally, I think Lucifer's Hammer would be good, just keep it true to the original story, no more Hollyweird "always a positive ending" crap. Deep Impact and Armageddon were effects movies, but story lines were hard to digest. Hard to believe in small comets that only take out a small portion of the Earth's surface.

Hey, it's brainstorm time: How about "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" (a short regarding why Superman can't have kids)? Do it in pseudo-documentary form (hell, Moore would take that on, he's good at pseudo-documentaries :devil: ).

Im a big Sci-Fi fan but the only books ive read have been these...

I can't see how Foundation would fare well as a movie or series - too deep for that little-old-aunt-in-Alabama and not enough "action".

That said, Foundation was the series that beat out Lord of the Rings, was it not?

Foundation was a great series.
My choice for a movie is:

The Dune Prequils, especially the machine wars.

A little off topic but a great fantasy movie could be made of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenent. Urr lord and Unbeliever!

Another series people have been trying to make a movie or miniseries of is McAffrey's Dragonriders of Pern, which, while slow to come to the SF point of it, turns into "hard" Science Fiction.

I think it would appeal to all ages, and would lend itself to some really neat effects, particularly with the dragons and fire lizards.

You could maybe get Viggo Mortenson to play F'lar, and maybe James Taylor or someone to play Masterharper Robinton.

Aw come on jaeger...Hollywood screws everything up, so why not give it a shot. I would see Foundation being more of a full fledged series. There's enough story in Harsh Mistress to make a good 90 minute fun movie.

Titan would be kewl as would Pern. How about some of the older classics:

Miller's A Canticle for Leibowitz could be doable, The Wanderer by Leiber could be a lot of fun, Way Station (Simak) would be kewl!.
Neuromancer (Gibson) would be interesting, Ender's Game I would see.
Two other's I think would be pretty darn good are:
The Uplift Series (Saga & Trilogy)- Brin
Hyperion Cantos (all of it) - Simmons

Ender's Game could be a very good movie. I actually think Hollywood could avoid screwing it up if they gave it to a damned good director. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress would be given the cheap special effects treatment. They'd completely crap all over the story.

Naw...what they could do is sort of a Heinlein anthology movie (sorta like Twilight Zone The Movie without the fatalities :( ). The Moon is a Harsh Mistress could be the main story, follow that up with a Lazarous Long story and perhaps "If this Goes On..." (one of the best short stories ever) :thumbs:

For those B5 fans, how about a miniseries of "The Passing of the Techno-Mages"; 3-novel set from one of the post-series storywriters.

A good read for those interested in making science appear as magic.
