Cool will try that and Mozilla, although will probably go with Mozilla. Looking for a replacement for Interent Explorer as well.

Just a daft question, if Outlook/Explorer is still present on the PC but not 'in use', can the holes still be exploited?

Mozilla Firefox. Been covered in other threads elsewhere, but very good. Multiple homepages/tabbed browsing, excellent.

I HATE that antimated, resource hogging, spyware installing program. People download it and install it, then start sending out messages that are 4 times the size they need to be cause it attatches all the graphics and antimations to it, not to mention the little add it throws at the bottom of every message you send out:

You and me both dude. I had it put in the company policy that anyone who installs that program will have their e-mail access pulled indefinitely.

My mom switched to incredimail so my OE openes everything in text only format now...

We have it banned here as well. Nobody can hit the site to download it, and anybody we see running it gets it immediately uninstalled. We've also blocked hotbar for the same reason.

using outlook, but have been thinking about thunderbird. who's got the goods on thunderbird??

I use thunderbird. Pretty sweet. Importing all my mail (only a years worth) took about 2 minutes and other than one person's phone number all the contacts carried over too. Other than me forgetting my password the setup was simple.

It finishes checking for new messages faster and has a lot more controls you can play with if that's your fancy. You can mark messages as junk and it supposedly learns which is which but I don't get a lot of junk mail to begin with so I can't comment on whether it works well or not.
