I understand where your coming from Webby but living in a country where the normal street person is not licensed to carry firearms or use anything but reasonable force you get a more distinct perspective on life.

It seems every night there are more and more news stories of armed hoodlums shooting at bystanders or the police,perps coming to blags fully armed [with weapons which may have got into their hands because of the recent ban on firearms and firearm clubs by over eager politicians looking after their careers and not their electoret].Where giving a helpful hand through the window to someone breaking into your house or car can get you a more trouble than them [as in jail time].
Im all for restricted firearms licensing [just how many weapons does one person need as many of you Yanks seem to own several at one time?] but there comes a point [like in the UK]where the percentages favour the crim and not the law abiding citizen.Having legaly armed law abiding citizens living on every street corner has got to be some sort of deterrent in these situations hasn't it?

One of the major problems officers face is the lack of an non lethal alternative to a projectile weapon.Tazers,bean bag rounds,pepper spray and truncheons are all good and well but are restricted in there uses in fast moving possibly life threatening situations.

As to the officers killing the father in these situations there is usually an well publicised internal investigation did it not get much coverage in the news?

Ok, this is a classic story. As has been mentioned before, firemonkey and I worked together for 3 years at Best Buy as techs. It was during a weekday, about 11:30 or so. I was workign the Audio/Video counter, and firemonkey was working the computer counter. I had a guy come in with a camcorder, and he told me the fold out screen was not working. I asked him to tell me when he noticed the problem. He said " I started having problems after I dropped the camcorder on my driveway during a party." There was a good deal of physical damage to the ouside, and it was easy to see it was abused. I informed him that it was not covered, and he would need to pay for the repair. As expected, he was very upset and started screaming. A manager heard this and came over. The manager ended up walking away after telling the customer multiple times to watch his language. The customer then looked at me and said " This is not Best Buy, it is Best Lie!!! Best Lie!!!!!". As he is saying this, he is ripping up his reciept and warranty book. He leaves the little pieces on the counter and sprints out of the store. I tried to bring him the camcorder, but I did not see him outside. I put the camacorder on the counter, and went back to work. About 5 minutes later, he sprints back into the store and grabs the camcorder. He rips the tape door and screen off of the camcorder, and slams it on the counter. He then sprints out of the store again. The manager came back over, and we were able to put the bits of ripped up warranty together and find the warranty #. We then had his address, and the manager had me mail the camcorder certified mail back to the customer. When I saw the picture of the killer on the news, this is the first person I thought of, and so did firemonkey. The area he was living in also matches up, So it is possible. Stories like that make me glad that I am not in retail any more.

Sounds to me like your police force itself may be trigger-happy, and not "society" as you put it...why is it you're quick to blame society, but not once do you mention the personal responsibility aspect? Lemme guess, all the officers involved either walked away, or at most got a slap on the wrist.

Maybe you need to change your laws out there, and ensure that the officers are held accountable for their actions.

Wrrby, I assume that you are a vegetarian. After all, eating meat would render your philosophy invalid, or hypocritical.

When I was a young, aspiring hunter (I no longer hunt, btw) I was required to take extensive firearm safety training, as well as marksmanship classes, at an indoor shooting range beneath a Bowling Alley in Seattle. Even though I had been taught these same things by my father at an earlier age, I had to take this training to obtain a hunting license at the age of 12. The alternative was to wait until I was 18.

By the time I was 18, however, I was in Vietnam, quite grateful for said marksmanship training at such a tender age. To this day, I do not shoot *at* anything, but rather, I hit my target. This is, to me, the only acceptable form of "gun control". While you are entitled to your opinion, it appears to be based on some form of "I am superior" type of Elitism, as evidenced by you stating that all those other people are stupid.

How blindly you seem to miss the fact that the same tolerance you allegedly espouse is missing here.

But you are still lots of fun in the forums here. Just not when you get political! :thumbs2:
