In US, the common ones would be:

Lethal injection

Cyanide Gas

Electrocution

Hanging (not certain that this is still used)

The use of firearms for executions is not common outside of the military, and if military firing squad were involved, one would think that it would be a 5.56x45mm (.223 Remington) lobotomy and not a 9 mm one. 9 mm is not a common size for any modern government issue weapon, except perhaps side arms. And side arms are not generally used for formal executions -- relatively limited accuracy -- to be sure, you need to be too close -- too messy.

What is the word I am looking for here? Could it be "dissemble?"

I don't think deterants are effective for the people who commit these sorts of crimes. They lack the judgement.

Mmmm & thereby hangs the rub .. Technically paedophilia is an an illness, though I don't personally see how this gets reasoned, its not, its a twisted belief system, but either way 'conceptually' I'd be unhappy about killing folks for this, but I am prepared to make exceptions to my sancity of life arguement, if that action stops innocent children getting hurt (or killed), & vigilante or not, if there needs to be volunteers for any firing squads, put me down !

If we can justify invading sovereign states & killing I dunno how many folks (& neither does the whitehouse) on the grounds of 'clear & present danger' why the hell can't we justify killing folks who present 'clear & present danger' to our own citizens, & have actually been proved to, unlike my earlier example where the politicians wanted us to believe the 'proof' ..

This thread is about much more than paedophiles. It seems to be about capital punishment, as well, wether state-sanctioned or vigilante. I never said Milgaard was a paedophile. Milgaard seems not to have committed any crime at all. Milgaard is a good example of a wrongful conviction for rape/murder, a conviction that would have seen him hanged in Canada in an another era. The point here is the wrongful conviction for a capital crime.

Lethal injection is probably painless. Cyanide gassing most certainly is not. Neither is electrocution. To the best of my knowledge, hanging has not been used as capital punishment in the US in at least fifty years, though it had the potential to be painful.

9mm rounds are common in police and military sidearms. I mentioned that round especially, because it is often an officer with a sidearm who finishes off the target of a firing squad. Of all possible forms of execution, a bullet in the brain would probably be the most merciful due to the speed of it.

And please, stop attempting to analyze my motives. There is nothing hidden, no romantic view of justice/vengeance. 9mm lobotomy was merely a turn of a phrase to express the view that these predators should be permanently removed from society because of the threat they pose. There is no vengeance in it. If vengeance were my motivation, I would recommend we blind and maim (I'll leave which parts we maim to your moral indignation) child molestors so they might serve as living warnings to any other who might transgress.

Listen, it is soo easy for us to throw the first stone. Butt...what about the ladies who conjure up rape stories for their own hidden agendas? The thing is: vigilanteiism is NOT the way to go...at least not for a civilized society. Way too many innocent victims for my taste, as well as many others.
Molesting children is even worse in most folks opinions. Hasn't anyone seen the documentary on the pre-school that supposedly sexually abused kids (I forget the name and details...but someone will provide that, right?). That is simply the most hideous crime their is, in most folks opinions. A close second for me is vengeance on innocent people.

I think you motivation is quite clear and well-intentioned. It is understandable. I don't agree with your conclusions, but I agree with your motives.

Children need to be protected. Our judicial systems are not doing the greatest of jobs with paedophiles. There needs to be a change. You choose death. I choose imprisonment until death. Each has its own cruelties.

To be honest, I don't know what I would do if one my children were sexually abused and killed. If I had a gun and had the opportunity to kill the perpetrator..... I do know one end of a gun from the other and was once a fairly accomplished marksman ... I like to think that I would take the higher moral road, but grief and anger can be powerful and revenge in the heat of the moment always looks sweet. One never really knows until one faces the temptation head-on. If I did were to do it, I would be very afraid of enjoying it and I know that with time and distance that I would ultimately regret doing it.

There is a monster in a Canadian prison. I believe he is still alive, if one can dignify him by giving him the status of a life-form.

If a law enforcement officer were "accidently" to discharge a firearm in this monster's direction -- "Ooops" -- or if a correction's staff member were "accidently" to push the monster out into the general prison population and then "go for a walk" -- "Ooops" -- I would understand. I would think it wrong, but, by God, I would understand the temptation that such action would present.

Basically it is a system of safe houses, where children, teens and now seniors can go for refuge and help if they feel frightened or threatened. To host one of the safe houses you have to go through a police background check.

The sign was up in our window for quite a number of years. Nobody ever took advantage of it, but I like to think that it made children and teens in the neighborhood feel better knowing that if there were problems that there was a place they could come to.

One of the problems for victims of on-going chid abuse, where the abuse is overlooked or ignored, is the sense of hopelessness, the feeling that there is no way out, nowhere to turn, no one who cares. It is a feeling that is almost as damaging as the abuse itself.

Working with a Block Parent program in your community might be a bit more helpful than some ot the other options that have been discussed in this thread.

Depends how you want to judge it .. I'm petty sure, given repeat offending rates, a good dose of '9mm lobotomies' would be much more helpful in terms of actually stopping abuse occuring in the first place & not mopping up the mess ..

Once a month , I work at children's home. All the children are boys and they are all deemed to have committed sexual offenses. Most of these boys had been abused themselves either by their parents or friends of parents and relatives. Unfortunately in today's climate . when they turn 18 they are put on the sexual offenders registry . even though an offense that they may have been involved with occurred . when they were anywhere from five to 12 years of age. There is no mercy on the system , and that needs to change. I agree an adult who is a repeated offender needs to be locked away forever or dealt with in an appropriate manner . that might include execution to save society time and money. But these children deserve another chance.

A juvenille is techically incapble of being a paedophile but not necessarily a sex offender, paedophilia is by definition an adult 'assailing' a child.

I'm not after shooting kids ;) & personally I wouldn't be for shooting any first time offender either, but if they re-offend then clearly they are beyond any rehabilitation & that's when the 9mm 'option' starts to seem more 'attractive' as its either that or lock them up forever ..

Hey, speaking of the 9mm Lobotomy, Gary Glitter may get one on the house, courtesy of the Vietnamese government. They seem to take a dim view of old men having sexual relations with 12 year old girls and could possibly sentence him to the firing squad. My opinion of the Vietnamese government has gone up a few notches.

I live in britain and my sister was a victim of a pedi at the age of 5-6 years
old and my father was told that he should not take the law into his own
hands. The Pedi got off the charge because my sister was considered to be
too young at the time, even though she told the police etc, the things he had
done to her on several occassions and how he had threatened to kill her if
she talked. This happened in the sixties and i do not believe that the system
has moved on in any great way, of dealing with the pedi's.

What i would like to see, in regard to a change of the law, is that when a
child is the victim of a pedi, we should use a mathamatical formulae to sentence the pedi. ie.

First take the age of the child at the time of being a victim.
Then take an average of the expected life span of the child, say 80 to 100
years old.
And if say the child is 10 at the time of the crime, deduct that from the
80 to 100 years of expected life span. In this case that would leave a
sum of 70 to 90 years.
This end figure should be then be the time that the pedi is sentenced to.

Also if we are not going to keep them locked up. They should be told that
if they commit the crime again, they will be given a death penalty.

This may sound harsh in some peoples estimate, but if a dog bites twice
then the law says that it should be put down. The same should apply to
Pedi's, rapists and murderers.

Just my thoughts on the matter.
