update:

as i had nothing to lose, i decided to use the tim clean fluid around the cpu and hsf to see if it would loosen up the cpu - and voila, it did. the cpu is now hsf free but with bent pins. really dont know how i will straighten them up because i dont have tweezers /and or magnifying glasses / steady hand....!! lol

cant do anything with the hsf / cpu until the thermal grease comes on monday.

Clean HSF tape off use artic silver, better yet use Arctic-Cooling-MX-2-MX2-Thermal-Compound-4g-for-Gamers.

phew, good job its rev 2.0 then!!!

have no idea what the bios number is as the pc is now in bits. i have managed to get the tape off. started to straighten the pins with the credit card process; got to get a magnifier as there are some a little more bent and i cannot actually see what im doing....!!

Be sure to follow the instructions for your thermal compound closely. Using alternative thermal interface materials (meaning stuff other than the Akasa Shinetsu TIM that comes from the factory) won't void your AMD warranty, but improper application will. If you return a CPU, AMD also wants the heatsink, and they want to see the TIM in the same state it was applied. If the compound is a half inch thick, AMD won't warranty the processor. Likewise a CPU and heatsink that are perfectly clean.

Getting the pins straight is no big deal, it just takes patience. What works for my 56 year old eyes is a bench mounted magnifying lamp with a circular fluorescent surrounding the lens, so both my hands are free.

Straightening the pins is difficult. I have done it a number of times.
I use a large magnifying device hung around the neck and a small bench vise.
Razor knife blade between the rows sometimes shows the bent pins nicely.Also can straighten it. Jewelers screwdrivers can also help.Also as NooNoo said Swiss army knife tweezers.
