Just for my interest, did any other USB device you plugged in work since the drive stopped working?
@CCT
welll..... ive tryed plugging in IPods and cameras but things like that didnt work.. but i have my wireless internet thingy plugged into a usb slot so i guess it reads non memory thingssss?? >.< butt..!!!!
my harddrive isnt working.. i thought i had fixed it.. but its not :( plz hlp ne1 ahhhh my info is up but ill repost if u need
OK, let's start with the front usb ports... there are two there right?
In one you have the usb wireless?
I would move that to the back for the moment and then try a standard usb stick in the port that did have the wireless in it.
errmmm i have the wireless in the back >.< but i tryed putting it in both front and back :( i can try putting it in the 1 that the wireless internetes in?
Please read through the following a couple times with particular attention to the 'Added Notes' so you KNOW what it says, then 'Make It So':
"Resetting your USB Controllers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm going to assume that you're running XP (home or pro). Recently I had to refresh my USB ports. This is the sequence I used.
1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties
2. Click Hardware
3. Click Device Manager
4. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controller
5. Right-click each USB device listed and select Uninstall
6. Click OK to confirm removal of each device
Note: Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all devices under UBS Controller are removed
7. Shut down computer.
CAUTION: Ensure that the Shut Down option is selected instead of Restart.
8. Wait a few seconds and turn computer on. When it reboots you will see "Windows has detected new or added hardware"
Note: You will have to insert your Windows CD, if prompted.
These steps will refresh the USB ports.
Added Notes: 1) If your mouse is a USB you will have to use the keyboard to shut down your computer. 2) It would be wise to unplug everything from your USB ports EXCEPT your mouse and/or keyboard before you restart the computer to avoid Windows replicating any printers, scanners, digi-cams, etc. Once Windows has refreshed your USB controllers and ports, shut down again. reconnect, and restart."

No -try that REAL SLOW!
Print the instructions first.
:)
haha i got it all :D hummmm its progress i thinkk... :P lol now in My Computer, theres 2 drives showing up, but it says the E: drive, new 1, is 0/0 bytes :P says its nothing pretty much
You have XP?
If so, left click Start, right click 'My Computer', left click 'Manage', left click 'Disk management' (expand the screen if necessary).
What drives and information do you show - please report everything!
humm in disk defragmenter it only shows the C: drive, and E: is still in My Computer :P
Disk management isn't Disk Defragmenter - LoL - try again.
hummmmmmmmm i belive its jsut waiting to show what i said a little while ago, but in Disk Defragmentor, it says only the C: drive is there and doesnt have anything about the E: drive, which is still showing up in My Computer =/
sorry i might have to go for today. plz hlp me more tomorrow or later tonight if possible
ooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! managmentttt... srry im stupid.. haha.. okay 1 sec
If you only have one partition on the main drive you will have a floppy drive A:, a hard drive C: and your cd/dvd E:.
If you have more than that, please say so.
Otherwise, you look like you are at the basics.
In which case, plug the external into a USB 2.0 port and what happens?
umm it still jsut shows 1 drive the c drive :( i uploaded a pic, srry i really gtg plz hlp me again later
<a href=http://www.freeimagehosting.net/><img src=http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/d29a2f4683.jpg border=0 alt="Free Image Hosting"></a>
My mistake - you will show the cd/dvd as D: if you have no other hard drive - so what is E: ?
edit(your 'image' isn't fully scrolled down)
drive e: is the external 1, i dont know why it chose the letter e... :P lol but thats what its supposed to be
http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/ec62b4fd74.jpg
E: said 0/0 bytes...
Could be a bad usb stick.
Dduhden can you plug in your external drive to the power and then plug it into usb and tell us what Windows does... does it react at all? Wait a few minutes and then look in disk management again, has another drive appeared? Post a pic if there is another drive shown please.
dduhden ; Noo Noo us talking about your external having a separate power cable and adapter and using it.
Did it come with one?
i did it but now its giving me the same problems as beforehaha :P i uploaded some pics to show

What do you show under hard (DISK) drives in Device Manager? (where you took those screenshots)
In Device Manager under the USB list, right click on the device and click 'update driver' and let Windows look (online also).
Any change?
No! Then right click on it again and uninstall it.
Then, disconnect it.
Then reboot and go into Disk Management again.
Then connect it again.
lol :P i did it
it says it was "Installed and ready to use."
in My Computer it shows Drive E: again, the external
but..
in my computer ts doing the 0/0bytes again
for a sec it showed my external but said it was 100% free of memory(which its not)
but that was for a sec and now it doesnt show up

Your computer is seeing that as an unformatted new (RAW) drive. If there is stuff on it you want to keep, copy it off using another comp.
You will then have to reformat it on your comp.
That's what I think.
Let's get Noo Noo's opinion before you do it.
:)
ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh okayy :( i can try >.< i dont think my other comps have enough space for everything i have on it >.<
Well, there are a few other things you can try:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920875/
http://www.ntcompatible.com/Desperat...ed_t32356.html
You might also try using SFC \scannow; http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43051.html
A last ditch possibility is to log on as an Administrator, disconnect ALL USB devices except keyboard/mouse, set Show Hidden Files ON in Windows Explorer, then navigate to c:\Windows\inf folder and locate and delete infcache.1 file and then reboot.
This forces Windows to reintegrate all the inf data for device drivers at boot.
kk ill try those real fast :D thx ill write to tell what happens after :)
i just did the hotfix, i dont think that did anything :P in disk managment its still the same,
and i get this error when i restart, i got it before i did the hotfix tho
http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/o...starterror.jpg
If you are booting with the external connected, don't.
Try with it disconnected - get the error then?
srry for late response, ill try it now
when i reboot it w/o the hardrive it doesnt give me the error
You need to leave it disconnected, try a fix, connect it to check, and if it isn't fixed, disconnect it again each time.
Gotta reboot the comp after each 'fix' also.
IF that disk was working say three weeks ago, you might have a System Restore Point that would set things right.\
Last 2 things after all the other fixes I suggested and the one above are a Repair Install and, of course, a Full Clean Re-install.
gl to you
ahhkk :) ill try it thx :D
I have been trying to remember the last one of these we got... turned out the machine was heavily infected... this might be the problem
Please download hijackthis from here and post the report (note you may have to use more than one post to post the entire report.)
dang >.< i thought you guys gaveup >.< i stoped checking after a while, but kk, i downloaded it and did a scan, heres the results
i upgraded to SP3 also btw

That has got to be the shortest hijack log I have ever seen!
It makes me think you definitely have something. Have you run a thorough scan with MalwareBytes.org antimalware?
