You have a 3 gallon and a 5 gallon bucket, and you need to get exactly 4 gallons of water in one of the buckets.
How could you accomplish this using only the two buckets and a supply of water?
__________
Fill the 5 gallon bucket and then remove and dump 3 gallons with the other bucket. Move the remaining two gallons to the 3 gallon bucket. Place the 3 gallon bucket inside the 5 gallon bucket and fill the 5 gallon bucket. Remove the three gallon bucket and dump its contents into the 5 gallon bucket giving 4 gallons.
Hey, I didn't tell you that was where I got that one from !!Quote:

Fill the 5 gallon bucket full. From that, fill the 3 gallon bucket, leaving 2 gallons. Now empty the 3 gallon bucket. Pour the water from the 5 gallon bucket into the 3 gallon bucket. Now fill the 5 gallon bucket again. Pour water from the 5 gallon bucket into the 3 gallon bucket until full. There should now be 4 gallons of water in the 5 gallon bucket.Quote:
