The "simplification" is the answer for 3 points.Quote:

You know, that's funny. I remember that one from Algebra class in high school.... too bad I didn't pay any attention....
the answer is 0
x-x=0 multiplied by the rest of the equation is 0
ie (x-a)(x-b)...(x-x)(x-y)(x-z)=0
You catch on quick. https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2005/03/1.gifQuote:

A man has to get a fox, a chicken, and a sack of corn across a river.
He has a rowboat, and it can only carry the man and one other thing.
If the fox and the chicken are left together, the fox will eat the chicken.
If the chicken and the corn is left together, the chicken will eat the corn.
How does the man do it?
NOTE: The "food chain" problem exists on both sides of the river.
__________
Man carries chicken, man leaves chicken and comes back, man gets fox, man leaves fox and gets chicken, man leaves chicken and gets corn, man leaves fox and corn to get chicken, man gets chicken.
Empty the sack of corn on the ground and put the chicken in the sack. Take the sack with the chicken in it, leaving the fox and the corn.Quote:

Let's try this again.
Take the chicken across the river first. Return, pick up the corn, and take it across. Pick up the chicken again, and bring it back across. Leave the chicken and pick up the fox. Drop the fox off, and go back for the chicken. Then get a beer for having to put up with that kind of crap. :drink:
Take the chicken over first, then bring the corn over but bring the chicken back, then bring the corn over, and finally get the chicken....
I'm guessing he then comes back to get the corn (with that same bag once emptied of chicken) and then the fox.Quote:

3 points also to anyone who can give me the "official" answer to this. The question has been modified. https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2005/03/1.gif

I'd like to decline that first three points, as my answer was blatently wrong. I thought I had something there, but it just doesn't work out.Quote:
