I made some excellent eggnog last year for my family Christmas party and ended up the only one drinking it. All 3 liters of it...

So maybe I put a little too much brandy, rhum and cognac in it... It was still amazingly smooth, creamy and frothy.

The strings are the drawstrings on his life jacket.

the "strings" were actually large ropes, which are buoyant, that he used to make a floating device.

or Some of the guards last names were string, so he ties them together and took the keys to a boat and got off the island.

There is nothing to say the island is a mile out to sea, just that he was spotted a mile away on the mainland. I say the island is just 1 foot from the mainland!
I also say the 2 pieces of string were his laces and he walked off the island quite easily.

ok so the land is fairly close, so he tied some strings together to form a lassoo, securered it on his side and romed somethign on the other side. He then proceeded to tight rope walk or pull himself accross in the water.

The strings he tied were to help him through a sewer system underground, to get him back if he took the wrong tunnels.
