My local bus company has recently expanded and no longer has enough room for all of its buses.

Twelve of their buses have to be stored outside. If they decide to increase their garage space by 40%, this will give them enough room for all of their current buses, plus enough room to store another twelve in the future.

How many buses does the company currently own?

24 /.4 = 60

err, wait:

If they are increasing by 40%, they are adding 24 stalls, so:

24 is to 40 as
x is to 100

So 24x100 = 2400
2400 / 40 = 60

They currently have 60 stalls, they are adding 24 stalls, which means they currently have 72 buses, and will now be able to house 84.


So, my new & improved answer is 72!
