(a) Try to spin the coin. It will refuse to spin.

By conservation of angular momentum, a spinning object tries to maintain its position in space. The coin will keep changing its orientation to correct its angular momentum, and will topple and fall.

Edball has already answered but he's the right one. The coin won't spin because it's trying to maintain the postition between itself and space. It would just fall towards the gravity with NO spin.

Better late than never...

I couldn't make it yesterday, as I was taking care of my wife and housekeeping tasks as she had pulled a hamstring.

Some cyclists rode their bicycles up and down a hill for a total trip of 40 Km. They averaged 10 Kph (kilometres per hour) on the way up and 20 Kph on the way down.

What is their average speed for the entire trip?

13.33 Kph. It takes twice as long to go up as it does to go down.

Assuming the peak of the hill is the middle... 20 km on both sides..

Would take 2 hours to go up the hill and 1 hour to go down. Total trip was 3 hours. 1st hour they went 10 kph, 2nd hour was 10 kph, and 3rd hour was 20 kph. 10+10+20 = 40/3 = 13.3kph???

I've probably screwed this up since it's not a whole number...
