If a block weighs 8 lbs plus half a block, what is the weight of a block and a half?

24 lbs.
1 block = 16 lbs - as 1 block = 1/2 block + 8lbs, or 1/2 block + 1/2 block. You are then trying to find the total weight of 3 halves weighing 8lbs each.

Here, to explain it more:
1 block = B
b= 8 + .5 b which then become .5b= 8lbs
so b= 16 lbs and then 1.5 b equals 24 lbs.
P.S. I should get atleast 1 point for actually explaining the lightning, Ya only talked about the speed of sound, not the fact that the speed of light would be so much faster to allow a comparison. :thumbs2:
