Ever seen a bad CPU?

Probably an even ratio of Intel to AMD. About 1 or 2 every month. I service about 25-30 computers a week. A bad CPU will often fool you. I had one that worked perfect unless you played an .avi or .mpg then it would get white spots in the window. Switched to another identical CPU and it fixed it.

I've never once seen a bad CPU...but I've seen plenty of bad motherboards. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

A few AMDs A lot of Cyrix amd Evergreen. I Intel 200. Out of the bad ones I would estimate that half were from the famous "Golden Screwdriver". Have never seen a bad CPU in one of our systems and we have used them all at one time or another. But then enough heat will toast any CPU and sometimes after the Golden Screwdriver has left it is hard to tell why the failure. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

What about the kind of bad cpu that is caused bacuase of our own stupidity.

I Misalligned a AMD K6 and not only did I see it but I smelled it too.

Wow what a foul smell. Though the funny thing is I was kind of excited that I fried a CPU

Only a couple int he last year that I've seen go bad and it was because of stupidity of others or a fan that died on an Intel and killed the processor.

LOL!....any time I see a Cyrix processor I consider it to be a bad experience. <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">

My sister wanted me to build her THE cheapest machine possible, which at the time was an IDT WinChip 225. All I can say is that I warned her.

What kind of carrer do you have. There is bad cpu all the time. You must be one of those techs they profiled on TV. Must work at Best Buy!

4 years and 2000 machines later I've only seen 2 bad Cpu's out of the box - one Intel and one AMD. One other Athlon cpu got so hot on the first boot it actually melted the fan on top of the heatsink - in less than a minute!!! Mobo survived too. Ain't that first boot a rush

Also seen a handful of cooked cpu's - mostly improperly seated heatsinks and no paste.

Got a phone call from a friend saying his machine would not post, He got the one long beep followed by short beeps, I go to go online to check the mobos maker website and my NIC failed
He phones a few days later saying he fried his amd k6-2 500, he started it without a heat sink and fan, It was hot enough to burn your self on, he even said the sticker on the cpu looked burned <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

Cyrix are always bad experiences. They run so stinkin' hot and aren't worth squat...had experiences with those things fryin'. Favorite is when you open up someone else's comp to fix it and the processor heatsink/fan is so clogged with dust the fan doesn't move. Dust (along with cheap fan, processor, and cheap heatsink) proceed to catch fire...doesn't do good things to the computer.

Any Cyrix, because they just SUCK!

Early AMDs, because of their "Pentium rating", what is that crap?

And 2 Intel P-II 450s which clocked at 470.

A few that actually went bad yes, other than that, about any Cyrix or Pentium Pro chip <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

I've only seen one processor bad from the manufacturer it was a PIII 933. All the rest where either incorrectly installed or the fan stopped and t overheated.

Just recently I built a machine for my cousin and it had a bad P4 1.7Gh. I couldn't believe it. I've seen a few bad chips over the years, a couple of 386's and more than a few PII's. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
