RTS: I hate those games so take your pick
Quake 1 2 3 Half life and mods
Warcraft 2 mecwarrior 3 4
Wow, missed some of the great one's here people!!
FPS:
1. Deus Ex
2. The Thief series
3. Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic(been mentioned :))
4. Half-life and single player mods (They Hunger scared the socks off my daughter :D)
5. Unreal Tournament (no deathmatch, deathmatch is BORRRRIIINNGGG!! Down with Quake III!)
6. Mech Warroir 4 (The best of the series, 3 was good also)
RTS: not a big list for me here...
1. Mech Commander (2 looks to be awesome!)
2. C&C Red Alert
FPS: Doom2
RTS: Dune2, then Dune2000, Civilization2, The Sims
Halflife-CounterSrike is my favorite. I still play it like it just came out. What does that tell ya.
Hell Lag, I still play the single-player Half-Life like it just came out!
Oh and I forgot about Dune2000...doh!
Jedi Knight is the only FPS I play.
Where else can you block (most of) your opponents laser shots at you and then move in to slice off an appendage?? :)
Or "force pull" their weapon so they are sitting there with their fists looking scared while you are swinging your saber away?
This is the one FPS game I've seen where having the biggest gun doesn't give an immediate advantage.
Of course, I'm biased... LOL
FPS #1 Tribes2 #2 Undying
RTS #1 Ultima Online #2 Ultima Online
#3 Ultima Online... well you get the idea :p
My Votes:
RTS: 1. Mechcommander (no building stuff durring a mission rocks) 2. Warcraft II (hey gota give props)
FPS single player 1. Half-Life (WOW thats imersive) 2. Deus-Ex (could have beat out Half-Life if the AI was better)
FPS multi-Player 1. Quake3: Team Arena (what else do you need?)
My 2 bits
I should also make honorable mention to
Baldurs Gate2, Serious Sam, Quake3 Arena, Unreal Tournament
I have to agree with Lycia on this one. One shot, one kill. More realistic. Although, there is nothing like using that rocket launcher in quake3, and it does take skill to use that rail gun.Quote:

Quake,a nd all its sequals, UT, and other games like it are boring as hell, especially multiplayer. Here is an example of a session:
Spawn, run around, firing madly, die. Respawn, firing madly, kill someone, run around, pick up crap loads of armour and ammo some one thoughtfully left lying about, kill some one. Run around, firing madly, die.
YAWN!
Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear/Urban Operations/Covert Ops. is infinately more fun and more involved. Real weapons. Skill is needed in order to play this game. No running around hyped up like some steroid fiend shooting everything that moves. 1 shot, 1 kill most of the time.
Skill? I thought it had alot to do with a low ping...Quote:

Baulders Gate was OK, it was too time consuming and near impossable at times. But over all it wasn't too bad.
Fallout was much better in my opinion :D
If I hadn't deleted Quake 1 in a fit of modem rage one day, I'd still be playing now. Hmmmm, now that I have my new DSL connection... anyone know where I can d/l original quake??
FPS Choices:
1. Half Life (including MODs, add-ons and spinoffs)
2. Quake 2 and 3
And at the risk of being weird...
3. Descent 3
It *IS* more than an flight sim and
requires a well develloped sense of
orientation - MOTION SICKNESS!)
4. Star Trek Voyager - Elite Force
(Simplistic and linear storyline, but
who wouldn't enjoy blowing away the
Borg with quality graphic rendering?)
No interest in RTS yet...
I see Half-Life still popping up here a good bit. Anyone checked out the "They Hunger" mod (single player)? Half life with Zombies in a rural setting. Like a first-person Resident Evil. Very cool.
