Good research, Jaeger. I didn't know Bush declined for the primaries in 2000 also. The fact that Bush continues to fund raise so much and often seems to indicate he is going to decline for the election to. Pushing back the nomination seems to be the only chance we have for public financing. I personally think public financing is a good thing. Anyway, it shows Kerry wants to accept the public financing but Bushes history is forcing his hand. Once again it is Bush taking the lead in declining as a candidate in 2000. Becoming the first sitting president to decline in 2004. And raising money like he fully intends to become the first major candidate to decline the financing in the general election.
Somehow this has been twisted into Kerry trying to take advantage of Bush when it is Bushes fault.
I hereby challenge Bush to announce in his speech tonite that he will not be the first candidate to decline public financing in the General Election.

Now as to the other issue of Kerry using the same reasoning as Bush in Iraq, I seem to have missed the point. Could you elaborate?

Farking hell, I had a nice long reply detailing the situation and my viewpoint and I accidentally closed Firefox. Damn me.

A few things:

Outside Kerry's supporters, is anyone worried about Bush declining public financing for the general election?

Can Bush afford the backlash in lost votes over declining general public financing in order to finance a media blitz? If Kerry decides to stay on high ground and Bush end up pulling a quick one, Bush will have lost my vote.

Bush clearly has an advantage, though a temporary one, with funding. By stalling, Kerry is handing Bush an easy excuse for declining public financing. Suppose these weeks roll by and Bush announces that he will be declining public financing because Kerry has snuck away from the issue and appears to be doing the same?

Personally, if Kerry can't prove decisive over something as unimportant in the long run as deciding whether to accept his party's nomination for its impact on his campaign IF Bush acts a certain way thats only backed up by circumstantial evidence, I don't think Kerry has a chance in hell of winning in November. The anyone-but-Bush crowd is large, but not that large, and him stalling right now fits right into the flip-flopper image that Bush's campaign staff has created for him lately.

And by comparing their reasoning I am ever so delicately pointing out that Bush=Kerry in way too many damned ways. I find equation distasteful for the opposite reason you do.

In closing, screw both the democrats and the republicans for starting this crap before summer. The bastards.

Another good example of "follow the money." Kerry knows plenty of rich folks. If they thought he had a chance of winning they'd be buying their influence now. Time will tell though.

Actually I wonder if the Uber rich Mrs. Kerry won't just kick in a Billion.

I have an idea. Lets tax donations to political campaigns. It would wipe out the deficit in no time.
