Something to do with the dead of winter. Not exactly sure what you mean by it but I'm sure it stays light there 24 hours a day in Winter.

Either that or there's no such thing as a small boat in Florida :p

Sam Sham sells designer water bottles in the Middle East. One day he loaded his canoe full of designer water bottles and paddled off down the solitary river which meanders its way through the barren sand.

Sam's customary business practice consists of stacking the bottles on one side of a huge set of balance scales and the nomads piling gold on the other. When the scales balance, the transaction is complete.

One day Sam met a nomadic group at the edge of the river and began doing business. Unfortunately for Sam, the scales broke. Since there was nothing around but sand, Sam couldn't think of any fair way to weigh the bottles.

He was just getting into his canoe to paddle off, when someone had a brilliant idea. What was the idea that would allow them to accurately weigh and exchange the designer water for the gold?

He puts a mark on the outside of the canoe to where the water level is,
removes the bottles from the canoe which will get lighter and go up. Then he will put gold in the canoe until the mark is down to water level again.

They used his canoe, stack bottles in one end , gold in the other put it in the water and see when it was level.

Alright, add in that he could use a bottle as a level. Put it in the bottom of the canoe and when it didn't roll in one direction or the other then it would be level.

I = 1
A = 1 + 0 = 1
