Art replied, pointing to the poster, "Brothers and sisters I have none, but this man's son is my father's son."

One more try. It was New Years of 1939 and Christmas of 1939. The reason they were one day apart was that it wasn't a leap year. In 1940, they would have been 2 days apart.
