A drive-by heal will not give the healer any XP.. I know for a fact that giving someone a drive-by bubbling will not give you XP, as I've done it multiple times and gotten nothing except for "thank you's".


Last time I was on Protector was Sunday afternoon, say about 3PM, I think, maybe. Not sure of the exact time. Anyway, I had popped on with Klarg and no one in the SG was on.

One thing that I am doing is that I have Jet Flash in a Sister Psyche TF with my SG mates on the Test server. One cool thing we have found is that some of the door missions have become outdoor missions! You board the tram, and select the mission destination, and poof! you are in an outdoor area for your mission. There were hordes and hordes of Freaks on the two that we went on last night. Fortunately we haven't had to clean the area out (it would take literally hours to clear a map), just need to find the sonic device to disarm and then lay the smack down on a boss type. Those maps would rock for XP grinding though. :thumbs:

Anyway, that's where I'll be tonight, so send me a tell, and maybe we can hook up after we have laid the smack on that b!tch Clamor. :devil:

Just to clear up this xp topic,... Lets say you battle a villain. You shoot him enough to take away half his health. Then you are about to die, so you fly away and you don't get to fully defeat him. About 20 minutes later while you are now back to full health and just standing there admiring your really cool costume,.. an enhancement will drop from out of nowhere. You think, "WTF?" But then realize that it's from the villain you battled earlier. Another hero came along and finished him off for you.

So in other words,.. if you partially damage a villain, but another hero finishes him off,.. then you both share the xp. You ever see like a lvl 20 villain running around, within inches of his life, you pop a blast at him and end up getting 4xp or something for it? Well, same thing.

But healing, bubbling, etc. will not get you any xp. I have heard that reving a hero will get you xp (if you happen to have the ability to rev), but thats about it. It's only if multiple heros share damage on a villain.

Yes, one of our controllers wanted to see if they had fixed the ArchVillain nerf that they had put in place a while back. Basically, a controller wouldn't be able to do a damned thing vs. an AV. Which made for quite a pickle when my group of 3 controllers and 2 blasters hammered through the entire Sister Psyche TF but could not complete it because we couldn't beat Clamor. Very irritating. :flame:

Yup, you have to do damage to share in the XP from what I've seen. I smoke the baddies for people and bubble them and it doesn't interfere.

Some stuff about Dark Astoria:
This place is like the Perez Park of Talos Island. It's all street with a massive layer of fog covering everything. You can't see very far in front of you. Mobs of banished P's (forgot their names, but you know what I'm talking about) are on every street corner. They range from around lvl 21-24ish. Maybe higher depending on how deep you get into the city. If you are on the ground, they can and will kill you quickly. I think the only one who can go toe to toe with them are tankers. Blasters should hover. And don't get too close. They grab you, drag you down, glue you to the ground with their stuff, then kill you. They can be very tough to beat. I'm not sure how a controller would fair against them. I guess you'll have to let us know ILTU. :D

Btw,.. just to clear up that little ordeal yesterday:
I spy a great big mob of freakshows. But before we go to them, we defeat a couple of smaller mobs. Then I go up there. First thing I see is a couple of lvl 20-21 heros about to take on this mob of lvl 24's. I'm thinking, "are these guys insane?" A controller and a scrapper I think they were. Then I started to say, "Hey,.. lets watch these guys die". Well, I watched the scrapper get destroyed. I swear, I watched his health meter just drop. Then I could swear I saw the other guy run. So I go in, fire a couple of blasts. Then all of a sudden, one of them says, "Why are you guys KSing from us?" Then I think Adept said to leave them alone. So I stopped blasting. But then I turned and saw Diverrr going head to head with a freakshow, so I had to do something because lvl 24 freakshow vs lvl 19 Diverrr is prolly not going to work out well. So I blast the sucka. Then all of a sudden everyone is going, "STOP" with the caps lock key in full effect.

Anyway guys,.. I just want you to know that I don't make it a habit to KS. You all know how much I hate it when people do that to me. It was just the circumstances yesterday were a tad messed up.

Thing is though we all need to keep an eye on the health meters of everyone. Those that drop low need to be protected. Blasters can pop the baddies near him and tanks can aggro the folks near him. I try to buff and debuff but it's just not enough sometimes.

Also, the key factor in most of the deaths last night was the blasters getting too close to the enemy. Unless you have a short range attack you have no reason to get so close to them and if you do have a short range, use it and get clear to shooting range. In the Buzz case he rez'ed with the guy right over top of him that was stilled aggroed on him and everyone was off all over instead of staying tight. The others were due to the team splitting up or moving to far to support each other. Still, debt is part of the game. I'm used to it but it slows things down enough that it still bugs me.

Just tactics I'm throwing out, hope I don't tick anyone off by singling anyone out. Adept - don't chase, stay back and keep an eye on the blasters or whoever and hit the guys that are aggroing on them, you can't do anything like the damage that the blasters do so don't drain your end fighting. Meatwad, Inept - stay away from the baddies, hit them with ranged attacks.

Actually, Buzz was built as a blaster/scrapper, which usually works out fine in team battle. My primaries are all long distance, but most of my secondarys are high damage melee attacks. So after I run through my initial series of distance attacks, I'm also very formidable running in to finish off a couple guys that have been weakend. The problem I ran into last night was that I saw one of the guys running towards a group. I started to snipe and the guy veered off to join you guys, who I hadn't noticed were going after a different group. It was too late to cancel the snipe and I ended up bringing 2 minions and an Lt over to your group. That's when I died. If I was paying more attention, I wouldn't have been in trouble. :D

I'm not offended at all, ILTU, as I'm trying to find a way to make this tank useful in teams as overall damage is negligible and lack of official taunt powers leaves it rather... lonely at times. :p

So far, I'm tossed between hitting multiple targets to get their attention by either moving from target to target or using Whirling Hands which has a limited AoE with a chance to disorient / taunt.

Problems I saw yesterday from my own point of view were quite simply that I would target (follow) a foe only to see it blown away by some blast with knockback effect - hence the running around.

And of course, when a blaster hits (but does not one-shot) before I get within melee range of the mob, then the aggro goes to him directly and I'm just standing there like a dork while the foes make a run for the rest of my team.

So I need to find tactics where I can be more effective without having to fall back on the Taunt power - which I find rather ... un-enjoyable as a gameplay concept. I'll definitely try your idea of keeping aggro off the blasters. Might make me fell more useful if I did that. ;)

I'm going for Stamina and eventually will 5-slot damage onto my Energy Melee attacks, but even so I don't know how effective this character will remain at level 30 or so if no major changes are brought to the tanker AT in the near future and scrappers can not only.

Soloing is getting tedious, and if a tank's only value in a team in higher levels is to bend over and take it while others are blasting away, then I truly understand what Wrrby was saying about tankers not being an enjoyable experience later on in levels. :(

I agree with most of the article. One subtle thing should be made clear, however: you don't get experience for killing enemies, you get it for damaging enemies. So, there's no real kill-stealing in this game; the amount of experience you get from an enemy is proportional to the amount of damage you wreaked upon him. The experience is gained, however, only when the enemy is killed. So if there's a bad guy that's almost dead and is fleeing the sign of a crime (usually, loitering), it can actually be helpful for the other team for you to knock him off rather than let him get away. Also, the "You saved me!" bonus from the civilians isn't awarded until all enemies in a group are dead, I mean arrested ("I arrest you with FIRE!").

Also note that you can be a white knight by casting debuffs on enemies when you see another team in trouble. Your debuffs don't steal any experience from the team, just help them out. That said, it's still bad manners to attack an enemy group that has been worn down by some other team and is not fleeing, so letting you mop up with ease.

You make some good points.

- Staying close is key. A house divided can not stand. Now I'm not saying we should stand shoulder to shoulder at all times. But if 4 of us are over here fighting and another guy runs off to chase after a partially damaged villain, then that creates division which weakens the team as a unit. We are all guilty of doing this, but it's just a basic fighting strategy that we should remember.

- Blasters fighting from range is key,.. but in my case, half my powers are melee attacks. I'm kinda crossed between blaster/scrapper. I did it that way on purpose to make soloing easier.

- Watch each others meters. Oh so true. But when you are playing for 2, 3 or even 4 or more hours,.. your focus can shift from time to time and it's always at those critical moments when you should've been watching. :D

- If a guy is dead, does he have any control over whether or not he gets rezzed? If so,.. I would say to not rez until your sure it's clear. Or make a macro that says "DO NOT REZ ME YET" in the local channel. :D

- Nothing you say pisses me off. I learn from all you guys. By what you say, what you do. It's a game. I want to have fun. Part of that fun is to stay alive. When you die, you get debt. Nobody wants debt. However, debt is part of the game. So if it happens, accept it. But learn from our mistakes. Thats the way I look at it. :)

How about this. Next time we are both online, you team up with me. Just Fracas and Raining Blood. We park Fracas in the corner of Talos somewhere and just let him collect massive xp while I destroy the mobs of Tsoo. If we can speed lvl Fracas up quickly enough by doing that,.. then perhaps you can ditch Stalemate and move ahead with your blaster. Twood be cool! :D

I still think there'S something to be done with Stalemate - and this is a character I've dragged along with me since I was a teenager - so I'll just plug away until I can respec him and then I'll see.

As for the Fracas thing - he'll be on in about 15 minutes. :cool:
