Best 1st person shooter and RTS game

FPS, oh well, Quake 1 and 2 started it for me with the reaper bots then multiplayer over a LAN. Then me and my brother laughing ourselves silly with Half-Life (skeleton skin), then Unreal, then UT, which is the best and most configuarable game I have played. I looked foward to Q3 but it was sad in comparison, and you're knackered with bad ping as everything moves too fast, some good skins tho.

Now sadly unable to play these cos of medical reasons my most favourite multiplayer is Moblie 1 Rally Championship. It rocks above any Colin McRae nonsense.

The other game RTS or not is Shogun Total War. I love it.

Unreal Tourney with Infiltration total conversion.

150mb DL, :eek:, but well worth it

FPS: 1. Descent: took major skill to figure out where to go and where you were.
2. Haven't played many new ones except Jedi Knight for the same reasons WebJedi_Master said.

TBS: 1. Warcraft II
2. Total Annihalation
3. Fallout Tactics: if you don't like the real-time fighting, you can switch to turn-base fighting.

FPS:
For the mindless run and gun sessions, UT and Q3 are good, but gotta have fast machines for good frame rates. Half Life is nice for older machines. Still looks good and plays fast.

RTS:
I like the older stuff. Civilization 2, Age of Empires, Railroad Tycoon, even Masters of Magic (anyone know where I can get that?). Baldur's Gate is kind of a neat series, but sure takes a long time, and BG2 kept crashing, so I gave up on it about a quarter way into it.

Counter Strike has a little more realism than most FPS games and the things they've done with bandwidth are great. The only problems is cheating. People cheat like hell... And that really hurts the whole environment.

Well for First person is
Half Life then Quake then Unreal. Never got into Duke as I got into quake and unreal.
RTS is ofcourse Command and Conquer
Another good one that I liked is Mechwarrior 4. Mech 3 didn't do as good as the first ones or MW4 and I love to play online with MW4.

They Hunger 3 just came out. It's the final release and has all 3 episodes. God, this game is like playing through Dawn of the Dead. Do yourself a favor, DL it, turn out the lights, turn up the volume ,and strap on a diaper. I go back and blast zombies now.

Well I have to say that Tribes 2 is my favorite FPS game right now. The graphics are nicer, the new vehicles are cool, and I especially like the new inventory system (no more "Hurry up with that station!").

Starcraft still remains my favorite RTS game.

FPS- Tribes2(best game I've played yet), Unreal Tournament, R6
RTS- Red Alert2, StarCraft

and gotta put this one in, the ultimate turn based strategy that I play over and over even after playing Tribes 2 and Red Alert 2 is Masters Of Orion 2 :D :D :D

And heck Cobra, although I LOVE the resevil series I think They Hunger ( which I think you did make a good analogy) is better than resevil's own FPS.

Cool, I didn't know that TH3 was out. RE's FPS was a joke, and I don't even consider it to be part of the RE series.

Unreal Tournament is the only one of the fairly new ones that I have tried. I am like you, not enough time. but someone convinced me to try Unreal Tournament, and I am addicted to the game.

I have to agree I hated FPS for a long itme cause I never invested the time to deal with the learning curve. But once I got to where i could actually get a few frags and not get smoked everytime I spawned I got hooked like the crack whore above. As for getting killed all the time. People who know how to play kill a hell of a lot more than they get killed. So as a person said before most poeple who hate FPS especially UT is because they cant play it. X
