Parts of the Bible Ruled Hate Literature in Canada

I know, I know... I said I wouldn't be back...

But are my comments purposefully being misunderstood? Are they even being read? :confused:

Please reread the last section of my post : "...I see homosexuality as an effect of our current society..." I'm saying the opposite of what you're replying here! I do not see homosexuality as the cause of society's downfall, but as an effect (the result of a cause).

Civilizations in decline have always demonstrated

(1) An increase in seeking personal pleasure above their responsability to the community.
(2) The origin, acceptance and eventual encouragement of adopting a homosexual lifestyle.

Their just signs of a decaying society throughout human history, not it's cause! :rolleyes:

Okay, your point is taken. But I still think your point is irrelevant.

Implying a connection between acceptance of gays and downfall of civilization is like implying a connection between your computer crashing and the fact that you have a monitor connected to it. The majority of computers that don't have monitors connected don't crash, it is true; but that is because they don't have Windows installed, and aren't on, but sitting on a shelf somewhere waiting to be bought, and therefore can't possibly crash... the monitor has nothing to do with the situation. It is entirely coincidental. Can removing your monitor cause your computer to stop crashing? No. All it can do is hinder the true function of your machine.

You have no proof whatsoever that these facts can even remotely be connected to each other.

To say that acceptance of gays is a RESULT of civilization failing seems to be to me a good way to create hatred. Because gay people have always existed throughout history, regardless of how advanced their civilization was. Are you saying that civilizations that aren't in decline are the ones that are persecuting their gays? Because that is dangerously close to saying that it is a good thing to persecute gays...

Interesting that you mention persecution. Christians have been the most persecuted group of people in the history of the world. Even today, in countries like China and Saudi Arabia, Christians are regularly thrown in jail simply for sharing their beliefs with others or even praying! Christians don't wish to persecute anyone, because we know how horrible it is to be on the receiving end.

In the end, each person must make their own choice. God gave man his own free will so he would be able to chose to worship and love God. Not everyone makes that choice, but that won't stop Christians from sharing their beliefs throughout the world.

In fact, (and Adept can tell you) the people of the province of Quebec are the largest group of unevangelized people in the whole world. Less than 1% of the population are evangelical Christians. Countries like the Phillipines that were once black holes of Christianity are now asking that no more missionaries be sent there because they have started training their own missionaries and are sending them abroad. Sadly, it's almost as if they should send them here! Unfortunately, we have been convinced by our own success and powerful North American civilization that we don't need God or his Word. Truthfully, we need it more than ever!

If I were to put in my 2 cents (which I am) I'd have to say that Jewish people are the most persecuted group through out time.


I really hesitate to post this because I wonder how some of you will take it and I really want to keep from offending you or anyone else religious. I have a lot of respect that you can believe in something and adhere to rules and for the most part I commend you. That said let me say this hoping you will know it's not an attack.

For most of the good that Christians have done the church or other Christians have caused just about as many bad things to occur. Lets not forget the crusades, the dark ages the inquisition, persecution of political rulers, scientists and artist and whole groups of people and the molestation of children with a subsequent cover up by the higher up clergy is the most recent. Heck if the clergy of the church were not members of the most popular religion in the land then I can assure you that there would have been arrests and people would have been held accountable but being that they were Christian they were given a pass and only accused priests arrested. My point isn’t to attack Christianity but to point out that people who have done a great deal of persecuting cannot (or should not) also scream about being persecuted later on. It seems harsh he way I wrote it and I didn’t mean it to be but I’m not going to revise it.

As for the Muslims of today persecuting Christians, well it isn’t just Christians, it’s all religions or lack of as well. We know what happens when Muslims or Christians or any religion comes to power in a country. They persecute any and all non-believers and often times their own members for not conforming to what one man or a group of men interprets their gods message as. It happens time and time again. I only know Western history moderately well but would expect that in other cultures this happened time and time again as well. It’s a force for evil just as it is for good.

Now, I’m not saying faith is bad. I don’t think the individual having faith and trying to live a certain way according to the teachings of their deity is fine and good and even if I didn’t I’d support your rights to believe in it anyway. I just feel that when organized it becomes corrupted by people and begins to hurt as much as it helps.

They don't make a smiley for "I'm not trying to insult you." but it would go here if they did.

I daresay women, blacks, and Native Americans would all say they have been more persecuted than Christians.

Probably pagans, aborigines, Hispanics, and various others might claim the same as well...

What about Rednecks, Hillbillies and white-trash?

One serious note though, if you are going to knock the church for the dark ages and the inquisition, please don't idly skim over the fact that for hundreds of these years the only people that kept writing alive, that kept education in any sense alive, were the monks of the church.

last I checked White supremacy groups in the US are all devout christians and use the bible for justification.

You are right that censorship of the bible is 100% BS and so is Christian meddling with Planned Parenthood doctors speking with patiens, Muslims censoring all other form of religion or lack of in their contries, all of it.

Censorship is one of the things that should alert people that their system of government is becomming oppressive and a need to vote out the existing rulers should be in quick order.

I don't agree with Censorship at all, but if you consider censorship a Persecution thats a little thin skinned. I would consider any of the things I listed persecution.

If the govt ruled that arabs using the Koran to promote hate against Christians was wrong this thread wouldnt even have started.

It's not like the govt is pulling the bible out of librarys or lining out passages they are just objecting to the context the passages were used for.

I agree with Hate crime laws but also 100% freedom of speech, dont care who it pi**es off.

My objection was to the Cristians are the most persecuted statement

This is the fist paragraph of the article. If the govt pulled bibles from shelves or librarys or altered the text that would be censorship. If they made possesion of the bible illeagal, burned bibles, tracked who owned bibles that would be wrong.

If i took out an add that said "Kill all gays/minoritys/women/christians" would you object to that?

Seriously though, I agree, the "christians" have been the persecutors, not the persecutees in my opinion.

On the "cure" for gays... It's a bit like teaching a child to write right handed because "its normal". At the end of the day, the child may indeed learn to write right handed, or be cast off from the education system as unteachable simply because he is unable to make his right hand write properly. The child still grows up being left handed, just able to write with the right hand.... that is no more of a cure for lefthandedness than "reorientation" is a cure for gays.

I for one would like to see people quit invoking God's name in order to feel good about destroying other people's lives.

I think Cobra bought the cure for teh gay at Wal-mart but you can ask him. Though I think he relapsed.

Again, back to my original statement, if ALL Christians followed Jesus' example in the Bible.....we wouldn't be having this discussion about persecution. There are a lot of Christians out there that don't know and don't read the Bible and they end up drawing conclusions and going by what someone else thinks instead of following Jesus' example.
