When you click on the saved desktop file it doesn't let you choose a folder?

When I clicked on Run it did not ask for a destination. It just started downloading. There was nothing I could do. Except Cancel (which I did not do) I thought I had made a big BooBoo. Most ask where you want to download to, this did not do that. I never had a choice. Then I did a Shutdown/Restart and then went to Control Panel..System Propertied...Device Manage...Hardware..Realtek AC'97 and it said no drivers installed for this device.
So I did the Save and then put it in a folder. You know the results there
No....it is not in he ADD/REMOVE Programs
This is a program I believe will put driver in for you from intel. Double click your folder and run the program I have to go to walmart right now I have three kids badgering me right now I will be back!!
You forgot to give me the program. HEY I KNOW WHERE YOUR COMING FROM BUDDY. I RAISED 3 TOO. 2 boys and 1 girl. You think it's bad raising them but when they get grown and they have spouses and kids then they ingnore you and that hurts the feelings.Quote:

A driver is not 23.7 MB. It is a program that has a exe. Which means double

Sorry it took so long I doulbe clicked it myself to tell you what to do:) look in folder and you will find a macromedia exe file double click that file It will say setup.
xpuser357
When I attempted to download the Exe file to install, the window came up to install, and then, I got a screen saying that the files on my computer were a newer version and it stopped. Do you still think that I need to go in the System and delete files that are for Realtek. Like I've said if I crash I would not be to upset because I have all music and pictures saved to a external H D.
I got an e-mail just a short time ago, and someone, I can't see the post, ask about my Updates. YES every thing on my computer is up to date. I've checked the drivers too. So, I'm assuming all windows drivers are up to date also. It did not suggest I download anything.
I noticed that in the e-mail it was from you Mayet. I probaby would not be able to download from my CD because of the same problem with the site, oh gees forgot your name that was helping me last night. I have been sent different versions and I DOWNLOADED DIFFERENT VERSION BEFORE I FOUND YOU GUYS. The version I have siting on my desktop now in the New Folder is Realtek Version 5.10.0.6020...computer would not download because it said I had a newer version on my computer. Even though I don't see Realtek in my add/remove I think I still have the driver for Realtek Version 5.10.0.6240.
I will not be in touch for the rest of the evening because I have to go to the funeral home for visitation tonight. A close friend of mine lost her husband and I will be there.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HELP ME. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIX BY MYSELF FOR A LONG TIME
Heya! If you show an audio device in Device Manager, Sound Video and Game Controllers:
I would like you to try this:
Create another Desktop folder called Realtek.
Go to this site;
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
And download the driver listed as "Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)" to the new folder.
Unzip it into THAT folder.
Then click update driver on the sound device and point it to that folder.
OK CCT
I've downloaded the file you ask me to and it is in the folder Realtek siting on my desktop.
I ran Everest and did a report and this is what I got:
[B][U]Sound Video and game controllers[B][U]
Audio Codecs 5.1.2535.0
Legacy Video Capture Devices 5.1.2535.0
Legacy Audio Drivers 5.1.2535.0
Video Codecs 5.1.2535.0
Media Control Devices 5.1.2535.0
Realtek AC97 Audio 5.10.0.6240
[COLOR="Sienna"]Multimedia
[B]Audio Adapt Intel 82801DB ICH4-AC'97 Audio Controller [B-0]
I can see this also in Device Manager. When I click on Hardware in Device Manager on Realtek " it says no hardware installed"
I wanted you to see this info before I went to the Hardware in Device Manager and tried to continue your instructions.
If you go to Start, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices and click on Hardware and then click on 'Realtek AC97 Audio 5.10.0.6240' and then click on properties and then click on drivers, can you click 'update' and then point to the new folder .
No I cannot click "Up Date Drivers" through Audio Devices. I did as you instructed and do not have option at this location. Here's what I did:
Control Panel-Sound Video Game Controllers-Hardware-Properties, Location..PCI bus0, device 31, function 5...Troubleshoot..Install from disk
Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager-Double click..Realtek..Driver Tab..See all kinds of drivers listed...Version 2.0.0.4----Click Update Driver-Clicked Install from spefic location..Don't search I will choose driver...choices
Realtek AC97 Audio Version 5.10.0.5440 1/9/2004
same as above.................5.10.0.6230 3/8/2007
same as above.................5.10.0.6240 4/25/2007
I clicked on the Version 6240 and got the BSOD after it appeared to start downloading....and got all kinds of error messages. I went back thru the steps so I could write it down to let you know what happened. It had the 5440 Version highlited to show that it was compatable. What is you opinion of trying for clicking on the 5440, which is the version that came on this computer and just see what happens. I contacted e-machines before I found this group and she sent me a website with the 5440 version. I tried it and it still did not work. Even tryed it in the Safe Mode as she advised and it still would not work.
Well, I think you have a mish-mash of drivers on there and it will be unlikely that you can remove them with my help. :)
If it were me, I would bake some cookies and ask that young lad next door to reload your system from scratch.
You have your good stuff saved - you should also copy off your favorites folder for inclusion later (just do a Start, Search and enter 'favorites' (check spelling may need a 'u'). Make a note of where that was located, click on the folder, copy and then paste to a cd.
I have run out of ideas here. Sorry and best of luck to ya.
