Truly interesting video, but I have to wonder what his hands were doing when they were off camera. My imagination suggests tortured and mutilated rodents, then gets worse from there. Joking aside, kid's pretty amazing.
But, this afternoon a friend dumped a big stack of Jimmy LaFave cuts on me. For the life of me, I can't find anything online that shows him at his best, but you might like this. Saw him on stage a couple of times with Eliza Gilkyson.
Finally got around to it. So here it is The Great Historical Bum and as a bonus I loaded another by them The I was not a Nazi Polka. I may be inclined to put up more later.
Oh by the way they take ages to load and I apologize for that since I'm a youtube uploader noob. Additionally if you happened to click the links within less than 10 minutes from when I posted this expect the 2nd link to not be finished being processed by youtube yet.
P.S.
These songs are from around the early 60s. The I was not a Nazi Polka is not supporting fascism. At the time a lot of people still felt negatively about the Germans from what I have been told and the song is making fun of the fact that once the war ended nobody would claim to be a Nazi. However during the war EVERYONE would say they were a Nazi. Though most likely it's safer to say they supported the tyrant in power than to vocalize their negative opinions of that leader and die for it.

It is sad when one is forced into replying to one's own posts.
I have seen the Willem Breuker Kollektief perform several times. I am never sure where to classify them. In some respects they defy classification. Are they Jazz? Yes. Are they Classical? Yes. Are they Avant Garde? Yes. Are they European Cabaret? Yes? Are they musical or theatriical? Both. Are they serious? Yes/no. Basically they can and do do pretty much anything. In one performance there was a cabaret-like table setup, the group was playing 20s/30s style Euro Cabaret Jazz, some members were doing some improve theatre type thing, at one point someone whipped the tablecloth off and fashioned it into an Arabic headdress, and without skipping a beat, the group was off into quarter-tone-ish Arabic modal stuff, and one of the horn players, someone of ambiguous gender, fashioned a napkin into a veil and began belly dancing - the audience was in hysterics. And then in a second they can be very serious.
Their humour comes through in things like the performance with Toby Rix where they both attack and pay tribute to Haydn, like some graffiti artist with a can of spray paint acknowledging the greatness of a cultural icon while defacing it because of its stuffiness. As Bono and the Edge say when you glorify the past, the future dries up.

Wow, that's well, why can't I have that much time and that much concentration!
OK, that's too funny! Talk about a labor of love! Meanwhile I'm still thinking about Willem Breuker's music. BTW, I'm still trying to make up my mind about what I think of some of Zappa's music, so this may take a while.
House, you seem to top yerself each post! I sent the Queen song to a few friends to enjoy!
