Retail Techs. vs House Techs.

In house for a financial. Did retail for three years..I prefer knowing all of my users, then at least I get to know if the person's an id10t or not.

I do both inhouse and field service for many years. I like the Variety and being able to go home for lunch.

In House. Network Administrator

Currently an In-House Tech. :)

Retail tech. "We get to deal with different morons every day"

In house network admin as a secondary role.

Same s***, different day.

I like being an in-house tech for a corporation. The only problem is there isn't too much of a variety when it comes to the problems we troubleshoot. Also, we don't always have the parts we need right away. We have to wait for a day or two before we get stuff for upgrades or replacements. Agood thing is since I've gotten to know all my co-workers pretty well, it's really become easy to deal with them, even the nutty ones.

Retail. This is my first tech job. Overall I love it. It can be stressful at times and the public is a pain but I believe this is the best training ground there is. I'm looking forward to a cushy network admin job with half the work and twice the pay.

I'm kinda' a in-house. I get contracted out by companys to setup and maintain there networks. On average I'm doing about 5 to 6 different networks all the time.

I have done both in my life, although currently in house here, I have to say this is what I prefer. A standard client base to deal with, "customers" are a bit more knowledgable... :rolleyes:

I started out as a retail sales/tech guy, and eventually left the whole retail thing to become an in-house tech for a school division. Leaving the retail business was the best move I could have made. I am sure it was only a matter of weeks before you all would have seen me on national television, surrounded by corpses. :)

started as a do-it-on-the-side tech (I hate doing stuff at other peoples houses too, no matter how much stuff you bring you don't have something you need) then graduated to full time in-house first for a corporation with a nice sized IT dept and about 700 pcs, then a 4-school district with a Tech Coordinator who knew nothing and little old me to cover 4 schools. Then decided it was time to "do my own thing" and open my own store, if you have read any of my other posts about it you know I am not really happy with it at all, at least before I did my job and went home, now it's a constant. It's almost a year now we've been open and doing great for a new business, its me thats not doing so great. Everyday I change my mind, do I keep it or dump it and go back to in-house, good money, good benefits, PAID days off. Last week I was disgusted and while paying my cable bill
filled out an application, now they called and I have to go for an interview friday for "high speed data specialist" sounds impressive but I have to see hours and $$,then decide. And unless i can sell the business (which I don't know if anyone wants it)and recover some $$ I will be out a lot of money. Of couse this week the store has been going good and I feel better about it again (till tomorrow at least). I am going insane I think.......uuuuggggghhhhh.
I wish I had stayed in-house and at the large corporation (the school had nice amount of time off but too much politics. budgets and butt-kissing for me, way more than the corp where they thought it was bad...hah) :rolleyes:

I used to work retail and now i am in-house, It is just a fact that retail techs get harder problems and the work is alot more stressfull then and in-house work could be.
