Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) Windows XP issues

Hello Guys, I'm losing my mind trying to solve this problem.

I've got 3 soundcards on my computer:

1) On board soundmax
2) M-Audio Audiophile 2496
3) Creative ENM232-4CTV (That's what's written in the box)

The problem is with the last one. Windows XP recognizes it as being a Creative Audio PCI ES1371,ES1373 (WDM).

What happens is that there is no sound! I've already disabled the other 2 soundcards but the problem remains.

My motherboard is an ASUS P4S800

When i go to sound devices on the control panel, the default soundcard is the Creative, but when I put something to play there is no sound. The original CD that came with that card install a VIBRA 128 driver.... doesn't work either.

On the hardware manager, the card seems to be installed properly, there's no yellow tag on it.

Could yoou please help me?! I need this board to work because I do a lot of experiments with electronics, so I need the line in on that board to work on an osciloscope software. I don't want to use my M-Audio on experiments, i'd rather use it only for safe recordings... believe me, i've already burned the line in on the on-board card ...

Try this plug in your sound cable into that sound card it is a small 3 or 4 wire cable usually gray or brown in color with black or white ends

It's weird, I didn't receive an e-mail warning that there was a reply.

The problem is now solved. I formated my HD and when I reinstalled Win XP the driver it installed automatically worked properly. I have no idea why it wasn't working before! :confused:

You is encountering conflicts with another device within Device Manager was NOT showing the conflicts between the sound card and software.


If your computer is utilizing all IRQs, unfortunately there are only a few ways around this, which can be very complicated. The first and easiest way would be to attempt to remove devices from the computer to allow IRQs to become free and or substitute for external devices. The other option would be to attempt to assign the IRQ settings to IRQ settings that may already be used by another device. However, when doing this, it is recommended that you choose a device that is not going to be frequently used. Windows may report that there is a device conflicting; however, in some instances the devices can work on the same IRQ the devices, however will not be able to work at the same time.

I've read through this thread and I don't think anyone has posted this exact problem.

I have an 2001-2002 era Gateway Desktop (model ATXSTF MNT Pro SP4 -- 1600 PC) running WinXP and my sound card is a Creative AudioPCI soundcard. For quite some time, due to table top space limitations I only had a pair of headphones with a microphone plugged into the sound/mic outlets. Recently, after some re-organizing I've been able to make space again for my Boston BA735 speakers. But after hooking them up properly, I don't get any sounds. If I plug the headphones back in, I can hear everying ok. I don't think the speakers are defective in that they worked prior to being unplugged some time back and they have not been dropped, kicked, etc. There were just stored on a shelf.

Did something change with regards drivers or in a regular WinXP update that prevented the speakers from receiving sound appropriately? Or is there just some setting that I don't have set correctly? I know that there is an issue with the BA735 speakers regarding digital vs. analog output but I've never quite figured it out.

Here's what I've tried:
(a) checked that the services.msc Windows audio is set to automatic
(b) uninstalled via Device manager the creative audiopci driver and then rebooted. Windows then detected the sound card and seemed to install it fine.
(c) made sure that there are no mute buttons checked anywhere. Made sure the speakers are hooked up properly.

A curious observation which I don't know if it has any relevance to this problem: When I open up the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel and then click on 'Advanced' get the Volume Control window, when I click on the options drop-down menu, the choice of "Advanced Controls" is greyed out and unselectable.....I seem to remember that that used to be available.

Thank you for the pointers towards the links. I checked out the FAQ on the Boston Acoustics website and I feel like I made some progress....but I still need some help.

At the BA website, it says the following:
"The Boston digital speakers do not directly require drivers to work but rather rely on the soundcard for processing.....You need to make sure that the soundcard is configured for digital output. If the soundcard is configured for digital or if your computer manufacturer has informed you that you need to upgrade drivers in the system, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your soundcard for these drivers."

So I interpret that paragraph to mean that I should either look on the Gateway site, or the Creative website to find the appropriate driver.

At the Creative site, after a bit of searching and plugging in "Creative Sound Blaster PCI", I got the following message: "Please note that the product you have selected has been classified as "End of Service Life". It gives you the option to search the archives where I found Knowledge Base Solution ID #3051 and this page says: "There are no driver updates for PCI 128 (CT4700) and PCI 64 cards based on the ES1370, ES1371 and ES1373 Chipsets for Windows Me/2000/XP - you must use the drivers built into these operating systems." I have the ES1371, ES1371 Chipsets.

When I try on the Gateway site to search for the relevant drivers and I input my computer serial number, I get told that my computer is too old and Gateway doesn't support it anymore.

How do I "use the drivers built into WinXP" as suggested? I still have my original Gateway system CDs.

Any hints or direct suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!

The ES137x drivers in Windows only provide basic functionality.

Is the sound card a physical card plugged into a PCI slot, or integrated into the motherboard? If it's an integrated chip, then Gateway was probably your only hope. If it's a separate card, look for a model number silk screened onto it, of the format CTxxxx (like the CT4700 example given).

It may be possible to track down a suitable driver somewhere, but I think other people have given up on this combination before...

Are the Gateway CDs system restore CDs, or a regular Windows Install CD and something like Utilities & Software disk(s)?

I feel a bit sheepish...in the end I figured out the solution....I re-discovered the Gateway-provided XP upgrade disks that had the appropriate driver on them. After uninstalling and the re-installing the driver from the Gateway disks and then making sure that I had "Digital" output selected, the speakers now work.

Need your help! Have the same problem with PCI 128 ES1371.

Computer is (not a manufactured model),

Mainboard: Intel Springdale i865PE
Soundcard: Creative PCI Vibra 128
OS: XP SP2

I just added the creative PCI soundcard replacing the onboard model (Realtek 97). I have disabled onboard audio from BIOS to prevent conflict. Windows audio has been set to automatic and started. But there's still no sounds, with the message "driver is enabled but has not been started" in audio device properties.
Have tried re-installed the driver, but still didn't work. Even now the onboard soundcard didn't work too.

Any advice would be appreciated.

First things first... why did you turn off the realtek and use this card?

Are the speakers working and plugged in to the green socket on the card and to power?
What is the actual model of the card you installed - the number is on the top right hand side of the card - it might start SB or CT

The model card is CT 4810. I turned off the onboard realtek because my speakers (Diamond 2.1 Pro Media) couldn't play sounds with it. Because the diamond speakers was with my older computer -and with the Creative PCI sound card plugged in to that older computer- so I thought I needed to install the PCI card into the one I'm using right now.

The realtek is now working again (with standard speakers) after I performed system restore and un-plugged the PCI card.

What went wrong?

If you take the time to actually read and use the Sticky about XP sound issues you would probably find the resolution (as oqa would have).
