Many cultures/countries have has battles/grudges that have lasted so long the origional reason for the fight has been lost in time take Ireland as an example.

Of the countrys you listed did their empire/society not collapse/implode? as to terrorists attacking Canada why would they other than to gain a staging point over the US?
