PSAPI.DLL error message

I changed PSAPI.DLL to the old version and got rid of the error window but I still can't get IE7 to work. From the time IE7 "installed" my Norton Antivirus stopped working and won't reinstall correctly, Explorer still looks like IE6 (but says it's IE7) and it won't let any of my bookmarks work. I get a "The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context" when I click on a link. I've tried to uninstall IE7 but it doesn't show up in Add or Remove Programs because it seems it never completely installed itself. I've tried deleting it's by the roots but it says I have to close other programs that are using it first when no other windows are open. IE6 won't reinstall because a newer version is already installed and redoing 7 does nothing.

I installed another antivirus in the mean time and overwrote all of Windows and IE from my backup to no avail.

I managed to install Firefox from the CD drive and it's working fine but since I can't get at my hundreds of bookmarks in IE it's annoying to start over with all of them.

Right about now a well placed sledgehammer would handle this problem, but then I'd be out of business.

How can I uninstall Internet Explorer and reinstall IE6? Then I'll get my bookmarks switched over to Firefox and use IE only when I have to.

I found eight PSAPI.DLLs in my C drive, dating back to AOL days. Renamed all except the one in windows\system32. All is well now. Thanks for the help!

Adman have a look here Since IE7 is an update, you need to check the box in add/remove programs (top left) to show updates. Then you can uninstall it.

Favourites are now called bookmarks... if you click on book marks you should get an import wizard to import your bookmarks.

I too installed IE7 because I naively trusted Microsoft, but got the dreaded psapi.dll message. Fortunately found this Forum (using Google) and with fear and trepidation used Stuinnn's solution, altering several psapi.dll's (There was one for Adobe that I couldn't alter). The Good news is ..it worked and I no longer have the message. The only bad news is that I now cannot use my Epson Web to Page buttons.Is there something I may have done wrong ? I have re-installed the Epson Web to Page without success.

You only need to change one of the psapi.dll's, the one you want is to do with your isp software... change the epson one back.

Thanks for speedy reply Noo Noo. I do have psapi.dll in Smart Panel but unfortunately it doesn't solve my problem. The Web-To-Page, Print and Print Preview buttons are not functioning.

In IE7 tools menu (on the right near the top) is an option to manage addons... you buttons may be disabled and you might be able to get them working using that.

Thanks again NooNoo. I found the add-ons. Epson Web-To-Page was enabled. I deleted it, and the Epson ToolBandKicker, then re-installed them using my original Epson disc. They are back there in the Add-ons and both are enabled. Still can't operate the buttons though.

That Epson stuff should appear in Add/Remove Programs - have you tried a 'Remove' of it and reboot and then reinstall?

Yes, I have tried uninstall-reboot-install of the Epsom Web-To-Page and Smart Panel programmes... but have not deleted ALL of the Epson stuff as I am unsure of exactly which Epson programmes are in there. Using the Epson disc it tells me when some of the programmes will be overwritten anyway.

This may be a security setting in IE7 to prevent scripting... I can't help because I don't know the program you have, (I do have epson printers though). Is the software available at Epson to download? If so, I might try it and see the result on my machine.

Great News !! I found the epson web site and downloaded Epson Web-To-Page Utility Programme v1.1aA. This is a mid 2006 version which I have used to overwrite my original programme which was older. Problem solved. My buttons now seem to be in perfect working order.

First, I wish to let you all know I am NOT very confident in making any kind of changes, especially in Program Files! However, I braved it anyway, and after renaming PSAPI.DLL to PSAPIOLD.DLL I’m happy to report I no longer get that annoying error message. Thank you so much for all your comments and support!!

Hi I am a real novice having the same problem.I have done the search for all instances of PSAPI.DLL but I dont understand where to 'enter the command prompt' or even what it means to do this. Could someone please give me an idiots guide to how to sort this out. It isnt a problem but it is darned irritating.

Welcome MARTHAWALRUS The solution to your problem seems to be dependent upon who you have as your Internet provider, among other things. Who is your Internet provider??
