SINCE WHEN DO 33% and 50% ADD UP TO 100%?

Wayward, you don't even know the correct answer to your own question. You can't add statistics from two different ratios, which is what you are trying to do when you come up with the 67%. 50% is correct, because this is a ratio of two, instead of three...

You really are dumb, aren't you... :eek2:

Hoo boy. At least now we get to argue over something in which personal opinions are irrelevant.

Here's how it works Ya_Know. At no point was there ever a 50% chance involved in the process... that number is erroneous. There never WAS a second "ratio"... only the first one.

At the beginning of the process, your original choice has a 67% chance of being wrong.

At the end of the process, your original choice STILL has a 67% chance of being wrong. Nothing has changed that probability.

Therefore, the other choice has a 67% chance of being right.

Probability must ALWAYS add up to 100% If one choice has a 50% chance of being right, the other choice MUST have a 50% chance as well.

You're wrong this time, Ya_Know. And none of your "charisma" can get you out of it. :p

The probabilities changed when one of the doors was eliminated. Originally, 1/3, after elimination 1/2.

I opt not to remove edball's points, simply on the grounds that his answer is valid if you compare the second set of options to the remaining number of possibilities, not the original one. 50% is "correct" then.

I think what adept is trying to elude to is that both answers are correct to a degree of perception. But as Eball points out, your perception is just plain stupid... :p
